Receives Federal Disaster Declaration Discover Georgia. At the Fair In Response to Impact of Hurricane Ivan As you may or may not know, the 15th annual, state-sponsored Georgia National Fair is "up in the air" this year! That is to say one of our newest acts is Jay Cochrane, a sky walker, will walk across our main lake on a high wire, 200 feet in the air. It will be something to see! As usual, there will be new events galore at the Fair this year, such as the Bengal Tigers, Dean Church Variety Show, and John Haines as "Elvis." Returning attractions include the Circus Maximus; Laser Light Show, and of course, the fantastic Reithoffer Midway. Governor Sonny Perdue announced Sept. 18 that Georgia received approval from President Bush for a federal disaster declaration in response to the impact of Hurricane Ivan. This White House approval means that hurricane victims and local governments \in the hardest hit areas will be eligible to receive federal funding and assistance to recover from the- storm. "I want to thank President Bush for quickly responding to our request," said Governor Perdue. "This declaration will not only speed assistance to Georgians impacted by Ivan, it will also ease the burden on local governments as they continue to respond and recover from the storm." The Presidential disaster declaration provides public infrastructure assistance to local governments and. individual assistance to storm v!ctims in the White. Teams of local, GEMA and FEMA representatives will continue to assess damages to determine . if additional counties should be added to this disaster declaration. "Since damage assessments continue, I want to encourage everyone who has received damage from the storm tocall FEMA's toll free registration line to apply (or assistance," said Governor Perdue. Storm victims can call FEMA's teleregistration line to apply for assistance at 1-800-621-3362 and for the speech and hearing impaired at 1-800-462-7585.
