Treatment, Soil Terniiticide, Ground~ater, ; and Use/Misuse Laboratory conducts a variety of chemical analyses in its mission to. protect the state's consumers. The Laboratory, -directed by Dr. Reuben Beverly, has 'five. main functions of chemical. analysis: - The first function is pesticide formulation analysis. The laboratory perfqrrns analyses of products obtained from pesticide field agents of th1; Department's Pesticides Division under the supervision of Tommy Gray. These agents perform inspections of products available to . agribusinesses . and agricultural pesticides, lawn and garden pesticides, home pest control products, animal insect control products, pool chemicals, and. disinfectants. These samples are re~stered pesticides and are tested in the analytical- laboratory to. determine that the concentrations of the active ingredients meet label guarantees. Scientists not only look for deficiencies but also check for over-formulation, which can be cjust. as _dangerous as deficiencies. Analysis for crossc.ontarnination is also .made. Laboratory personnel have to make sure the samples are within minimum tolerance for wood treatment. Samples are obtained from lumber yards, building material facilities, and manufacturers in the marketplace. Structural pest contol inspections are ~ conducted under the_ supervision of_ Jim ~arron of the Department's Structural Pest Control Division. Field agents check_ to make sure pest control companies properlytreat new or existing homes with . precision farming, livestock (beef, dairy, horses, ratites, alpacas, goats), forestry, termiticides. They check for application of correct v-olumes of properly mixed ATVs, antique tractors, the small. farm center, automotive, lawn and gardening, hunting and fishing and family living. w'i.th so many ai:eas represented at the.
