But I | also recall the gratitude and joy I experienced when the late [summer rains fell and revived our thirsty corps and parched pastures. Grease and flour 4 cake baking pans and set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream together the butter (or margarine) and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add milk and flour alternately to the mixture. Scrape the sides of the bowl often. Add vanilla. Add coconut, pecans, walnuts, raisins, apple and orange to the cake batter and mix well. Pour batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center of the pan comes out clean. In a small sauce pan, bring to a boil 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup milk. Pour over cake layers while still warm. This will keep the cake very moist. Icing Directions: Combine milk, sugar, flour and butter (or margarine) and cook over a medium heat for 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and bring mixture to a boil. Cook for 3-5 more minutes until mixture is thick. Cool slightly and ice the cake. Mrs. Florine S.
