Like all professional organizations, the mission of ACE is to improve the skills and expand the knowledge aase of its members. Because of its importance to the state's economy, government and industry officials are taking necessary action to prevent disease outbreaks in the state. Industry Seeks Information To Protect Georgia Poultry A $1,000 reward has been offered by the Georgia Poultry Federation for information regarding the illegal movement of live poultry or birds into Georgia from the avian influenza quarantine areas in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. "We are very concerned about the risk of introducing the avian influenza disease into Georgia, and hope Poultry Show Canceled The Peach State Poultry Clab has cancelled their spring show due to mounting concern that Georgia's billion dollar poultry industry would be exposed to the deadly avian influenza. Show chairman Bobby Drake cancelled the March17 show voluntarily after talking with officials at the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The fall show will be held as planned pending the quarantine situation at that time. this reward will encourage those with information about movement of birds from the quarantine area into our state to come forward," said Abit Massey, executive director of the Georgia Poultry Federation. Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin said he supported the reward offering and again emphasized his commitment and that of his Department to continue to do everything possible to ensure the disease is not introduced in Georgia. Both federal and state Department of Agriculture regulations prohibit the movement of any live birds into Georgia from the quarantine areas. The reward is offered as an incentive to those who may have knowledge of possible violations. The reward would be paid after Georgia Department of Agriculture and federal officials, acting on information provided by the informant, locate birds and determine that there had been a violation. The MARKET BULLETIN has received many inquiries regarding our policy about advertising lawnmowers. Regrettably, space does not permit us to advertise lawnmowers in the BULLETIN. The only mowers which are permitted are those which are used for agricultural purposes, i.e., hay mowing, bushhogging, orchard / pasture mowing, etc. Mower attachments for garden tractors are allowed as well as any equipment which has a 44-inch cut or more. Attention Farm Machinery Advertisers Advertisers are now required to submit a statement with farm machinery notices. The statement should state that the equipment is owned by the advertiser and has been used on his or her individually owned or leased farm. Ads received without this statement will be returned to the advertiser. PTO for G AC tractor good cond. J. M. Modern 6 ft. scrape blade 3 way ad- Thigpin, Adrian 31002. Agricultural seed and plants for sale I! you have questions regarding this category, call Ella Beach 656-3727. All agricultural seed must have a current germination report not more than 9 months old. All agricultural plants are required to be inspected to assure disease-free condition. Certain varieties of seed are protected from propagation unless it is grown as a class of certified seed. For example, wheat seed such as McNair, Oasis, Coker, and Arthur may not be propagated for sale unless the grower is certified. Propagation of such seed is a violation of the Plant Variety Protection Act and the Federal Seed Act. If you have questions regarding certified seed, call the Market Bulletin office or the Seed Division of the Department of Agriculture, 656-3635.
