WARNING TO This is the time of year that fly-by-night gyp artists claiming to be pest control operators flourish. Last year these flim-flam operators fleeced Georgia home owners of more than $35,000 during the Christmas Season, from about December 20 through January 5. During that period, department personnel were required to work around the clock keeping check and tracking these violators who seem to prey on the spirit of trust and generosity that prevails at this time of year. Their favorite taraet is elderly and retired folks who can least afford the loss. Although convictions were obtained against several of these operators, there seems to be a new crop of swindlers each year. Everyone is to keep their guard up during the season this year to avoid last year's loss to the homeowner. HOMEOWNERS If anyone approaches your home wanting to check or treat termites and other pests, ask to see his state license. In addition, all trucks and cars used by state licensed operators are required to be lettered with the company name. If the operator cannot produce the license to your satisfaction, please report the incident to local authorities or the Department of Agriculture. Pecans The Georgia Crop Reporting Service forecasts 1967 pecan production in the state at 45 million pounds. Production in 1966 totaled 37 million pounds. This is probably the best time of the year for transplanting pecan trees, according to Ray Livingston, head of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service horticulture department. ^ ^Wb/^>^ XC * * ^^ AND BEST WISHES TO OUR MARKET BULLETIN READERS MAY 1968 BE FULL OF PEACE AND HAPPINESS FOR YOU AND YOURS PAGE 2 THE MARKET BULLETIN December 27, 1967 GEORGIA FARMERS' MARKET BULLETIN PHIL Georgia Department of Agriculture Agriculture Building Capitol Square Atlanta, Georgia 30334 404 - 524-3292 CAMPBELL Notices of farm produce and appurtenances admissible under postage regulations inserted one time on each request.
