Georgia Farmers' Marke Bulletin Phil Campbell, Commissioner VOLUME 52 Wednesday, October 5, 1966 NUMBER 58 SEEDLING ORDERS NOW ACCEPTED GA. FORESTRY COMMISSION OFFERS 21 TREE SPECIES Seedling application forms are now being accepted by the Georgia Forestry Commission's 1966-1967 Seedling Distribution Program. The application forms may be obtained from Georgia Forestry Commission County Rangers or by writing the Commission's main office in Macon. Application forms may also be obtained from County Agents, Soil Conservation Technicians, or Agricultural Conservation Program offices. Tree seedlings, produced by the Commission for reforestation purposes, are vitally important to Georgia's forest industry, which ranks second only to the textile industry in its contributions to the state's total economy. How To Order All seedling orders must be submitted on a Commission application form. If a landowner desires additional trees after an initial order, another application form must be filled put. Mail completed forms to the Georgia Forestry Commission, P. 0. Box 1077, Macon, Georgia 31202. Landowners may place their seedling orders without payment through November 20. Payments must accompany orders submitted after November 20. No trees will be shipped until the correct payment has been received. Seedlings Transported Slash and loblolly pine seedlings will b6 shipped from approximately November 22 through March 15, depending on the season. A transportation charge of 50 cents per 1,000 trees is added to the cost, if delivery is by State trucks. Landowners will pick up truck deliveries from the ranger's headquarters in their locale. Only healthy, vigorous seedlings are shipped from the Commission's five nurseries. Special care is taken in lifting and packaging. However, the Commission does not guarantee the survival of any trees. Out of state orders will be considered only if a surplus exists.
