f 1965 FALL FARM LAND EDITION Georgia Fa rmers Marke Phil Campbell Bulletin Commissioner VOLUME 51 ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WEDNESDAY,, OCTOBER 20, 1965 NUMBER 8 LENDING SERVICE FOR FARMERS By Byron Kirkland President & General Manager Georgia Development Authority A lending system which provides long and intermediate term loans for Georgia farmers is available through the Georgia Development Authority, which was created by the State Legislature in 1953. Loans are made for refinancing short term debts, purchasing additional land, new machinery and equipment, farm buildings and almost any other need which should be financed on intermediate or long term instead of short term basis. Farm real estate is used as collateral, leaving livestock, machinery and crops free to secure other credit when needed. Farm loan specialists service the loans for the farmers and insure the loans to the lenders. Loans have been placed in this manner in 86 counties. A total of 67 banks in Georgia, as well as two Georgia insurance companies, are serving farm customers with loans through the Georgia Development Authority. Farmers have proved to be good credit risks. The Authority has experienced no losses and no foreclosures in the 12 year period of its Purpose of the Authority is to provide dependable long term credit tailored to the needs of individual farmers. Authority personnel are trained to understand farm needs on an individual basis. Although the Authority staff is small, it includes a large number of local appraisers to assure fair and full market value appraisals and speedy service on applications. The Authority has demonstrated the soundness of the idea of servicing farm loans for other lenders. Several servicing organizations are now in the agricultural field, and others are making plans to get into it. This has been an accepted procedure for residential, commercial and industrial financing. Georgia farmers are operating big business, with investments of $100,000.00 being commonplace. They must have all the help that others need and have in order to provide needed food for people of the world. The Authority earns a small profit each year and does not get an appropriation from the State. All earnings go into the Authority guaranty fund. This enables service to more farmers. Persons needing this type of farm credit should contact the Georgia Development Authority, Room 212, 15 Peachtree St., N.E., Atlanta, Georgia, 30303.
