In the early sixteen hundreds, when our forefathers celebrated the first Thanksgiving, they had little to be thankful for, according to today's standards. 
More than half of their original number had perished during the first winter at Plymouth Rock. Every person who had survived the winter had to work and work hard just to provide enough food for the coming winter months. And so, when the first harvest was reaped and the Pilgrims knew that the cold months ahead would not take the toll the first hard winter had, they rejoiced and gave thanks. This was the first Thanksgiving. A small group of farmers, intent on religious freedom, were thankful that enough food had been harvested to last them the winter months ahead. 
Today, it does not take the toil of every American to provide food for the winter months. Today, less than 10 percent of our population provides more than enough food for the remaining 90 percent. 
Today, the average urban family spends less than 20 percent of its income for food. Today, most Americans have little worry about surviving the winter due to lack of food. 
Today, for Thanksgiving 1965, let us thank God for these blessings; and let us ask His blessing for our men in the Armed Forces who are facing hardship and even death and will not be at home for the American tradition of a Thanksgiving Holiday.

DURING NOVEMBER OF 1964, GEORGIA EXPERIENCED AN OUTBREAK OF CHOLERA IN THE SOUTHEAST PORTION OF THE STATE THAT LED TO THE HIGHEST INCI DENCE OF CHOLERA WE HAD EXPERIENCED SINCE 1961. 
AS HOG CHOLERA SEASON IS GENERAL LY THOUGHT TO BE THE SPRING AND SUM MER MONTHS OF THE YEAR, FARMERS OF TEN LET DOWN THEIR GUARD DURING THE FALL MONTHS. THIS WAS THE PROBABLE CAUSE OF THE TROUBLE AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR. 
 
FARMERS ARE THEREFORE WARNED TO CHECK THEIR HOGS CAREFULLY DURING THE NEXT FEW MONTHS TO ASSURE AGAINST HEAVY LOSS FROM CHOLERA. 
ONLY SEVEN CASES OF CHOLERA WERE REPORTED IN OCTOBER, 1965. WE CAN KEEP THIS GOOD RECORD IF ALL FARMERS WILL 
(1) WATCH FOR SICK HOGS IN THEIR HERD, 
(2) REPORT ANY SUSPICION OF CHOLERA 
IMMEDIATELY AND (3) VACCINATE PREFER ABLY WITH KILLED VACCINE WHERE NO KNOWN INFECTION EXISTS IN YOUR AREA.

Only hives or colonies in modern, movable frame equipment can be inspected. Purpose of the inspec tion is to prevent the sale or movement of diseased hives or colonies. 
Persons desiring to advertise their bees in The Bulletin should first write the Entomology Division of the Georgia Department of Agriculture and re quest an inspection. If the bees pass inspection an advertisement may then be sent to The Bulletin.
