Phil Campbell, Farmers ulletin Commissioner : approximately sixty per- hog population in Georgia eee andofficials are to be con- ted on their outstanding efforts. ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1963 concerted effort to qualify for the pro- gram, In order to qualify for the program, it is necessary to reach a 60 percent vacci- nation level of the hog population in your county, at owners expense. When this level is achieved and evidence to support this fact is supplied, an agreement is sign- ed between the Department of Agricul- ture and your county to qualify your county for the program. When the program was first begun by the state on a county by county basis, it was hoped that federal funds would be available in the near future for certain aspects of the program. At that time it - was planned to broaden the program to a state wide effort instead of conducting the program on a county by county basis. However, the extra funds have not been made available from the federal NUMBER 19 D DLERA PROGRAM PROGRESS government and therefore counties must maintain their 60 percent vaccination level on a county basis in order to re- main in the program, It will be necessary to re-evaluate counties one year from the date of origi- nal certification to be sure that the 60 percent vaccination level is being main- tained. Now, too, would be a good time for these 56 qualified counties to begin to check and see if they are maintaining this level of vaccination. ~ Every effort should be made for coun- ties not participating in the program to - accomplish the necessary requirements in order to be admitted. If further infor- mation is needed on the program contact your county agent or the State Depart- ment of 2S in Atlanta.
