Farmers Bulletin : Phil Campbell, Ox, e, Commissioner ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31, 1960 MILK: The milk distributing plant operating on a one year base wants producers to flood the market, It is hoping to create a surplus of milk for its plant. NUMBER 54 This Distributor wants other distributors to remain on a three year base, to just sit idly by and do nothing. THESE OTHER PLANTS. THE ONES OPERATING ON A THREE YEAR BASE, _ WILL NOT SIT IDLY BY. The plant operating on a one year base is encouraging dairy farmers to produce a gen _ eral surplus of milk because one plant cannot continue to operate on a one year base without forcing all ofher plants to go to a one year base. If this is allowed, it will re- sult in a surplus of milk, Surplus means one thing to the dairymana lower, much lower, price for his gallon of milk. Producers selling to this distributor have privately expressed their fears, but they _ gay nothing publicly because they are afraid of being cut off by the distributor, rr IS A SHAME AND A DISGRACE TO THE DAIRY INDUSTRY FOR ONE DIS- -TRIBUTOR TO SET OUT TO WRECK THE ABILITY OF GEORGIA DAIRYMEN TO HAVE A PROFITABLE DAIRY INDUSTRY IN GEORGIA. This matter is of serious concern to 90 percent of the dairymen in Georgia who oper ate on a three year base. They fully realize what this distributor is attempting to do, Furthermore, this distributor has bought into other markets and cut off the producers that were furnishing that market, When this distributor buys out another distributor, he gives this business to his ows producers, leaving the producers that were selling to the plant that was purchased oui in the cold, This is saying that one group of dairymen has the right to stay In business where an- other has not. | This system is giving other distributors the idea that they must use the one year base in order to compete, THIS DISTRIBUTOR CANNOT EXPECT THE GEORGIA MILK COMMISSION OR THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO ASSIST 10 PERCENT or THE PRODUCERS OPERATING ON A ONE YEAR BASE IN EXPANDING A? THE EXPENSE OF THE OTHER 90 PERCENT OF GEORGIA PRODUCERS OPER.
