Farmers Bulletin Commissioner ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 1980 NUMBER ONE St MILK BASE REE YEAR MILK BASE e 10 percent of Georgia's dairymen are under contract to a milk distributor on a one year milk base plan while the _ other 80 percent of Georgia's dairymen produce under a three year milk base plan, | The distributor holding 10 percent of Georgia's dairymen to a one year milk base plan forces each of them to gome _ pete. continually and, in many instances, at a disadvantage for mill base. 8 ALL detiriian i Georgia supply all the market in Saale and as a result all dairymen compete to a certain ex tent no matter to whom they sell, @ The 90 percent now operating under a three year base plan CAN NOT be expected to be patient forever. They realize : s that the three year base plan offers EQUAL advantages to all dairymen but many of them have the financial means of ae building base rapidly and unless the other 10 percent adopts the three year plan the RICH dairymen now on the three year plan may insist on the advantages the one year base plan would give them. Should ihe 90 percent now on ihe three year plan go to a one year plan like the other 10 percent, ALL of Georgia's eres would become involved in a rat race of base building competition. 7 The 10 percent now compeiing UNFAVORABLY with each other on the one year plan MUST join forces with the uaa rest a the industry or face a wide open, no-holds-barred fight that would put many dairymen out of business and ereate ruinous ae surpluses, : ee. ieee @! Mille es. unfortunately, do not perturb most distributors. At times It appears that some distributors make an | offort to have thely dairymen build unnecessary surpluses such as are ereated by the one year base plan, De p As pointed out in last week's Bulletin only the RICH dairyman can afford the one year base plan. . lt is fully realized that the 10 percent of Georgia's dairymen now operating under the one year plan have bee oe peiaptaet and scared into not understanding what the other 90 percent of the industry is doing. _ Tt is futher realized that the 10 percent now producing under the one year base plan have been Mi washed through fear that oe would have no place to soli thelr milk if they adopted the three year milk base program, THIS SERIES OF ARTICLES I$ BEING PUBLISHED IN THE MARKET BULLETIN TO _ REMOVE THIS FEAR FROM THE MINDS OF THOSE DAIRYMEN NOW FORCED TO COMPETI AT A DISADVANTAGE UNDER THE ONE YEAR MILK BASE PLAN, READ NEKT WEEK'S MARKET BULLETIN PAGE TWO | GEORGIA MARKET BULLETIN Editoria) and Executive Offices Siate Agriculture Building ig Hunter Street, S.W.
