Farmers ulletin Commissioner state for the past tae years. Wh n hogs became cheap, omens ition, figuring they could af- ct lose a few, says J. N. McDuffie, vestock inspector, State Depart- _ Agriculture. ss pouih reac that seems to be : (1) Have all well hogs inoculat- immediately. (2) Refrain from buying observe the most extreme care pos- sible in purchasing feeder hogs. (3) Dispose of dead animals immediately by burying or burning. : Farmers must realize that the cost for inoculating hogs is a necessary ex- pense. Vaccination cannot be taken lightly or it may cost a farmer his entire herd. : Notice lo A Produce is & _ Georgia farmers are reminded : 2 all persons dealing in produce who purchase such commodities | from farmers by check are required | by law to be bonded and to carry an identification ecard issued by the State Department of Agriculture. : Persons selling produce may ex- | ercise their rights and ask to see the | identification card of any buyer who _ offers to pay for his purchase with a check, ~The identification card issued by the: State Department of Agriculture _ bears the name and the license num- ber of the individual as well as the ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 1960 INOCULATE YOUR HOGS NUMBER 4] scoigia on ast do three mount of his bond. Georgia EMPIRE STATE OF THE SOUTH RGEST STATE EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI Now that the outbreak has hit the state, the most important thing for farmers to do is be extremely cautious in purchasing hogs. Take every precau- tion to check the source of the animal before buying. Even inoculating the hog at the place of purchase does not insure the farmer that the animal is not carrying the disease. Until the epidemic is ended, any farmer who carries a new- ly purchased hog onto his farm is taking a definite risk of infecting his entire herd. Careful disposal of dead animals is most important in controlling hog-chol- era. All dead animals should be buried or burned on the premises. Do not take chances on infecting the rest of the herd or your neighbors hogs by careless dis- posal. Farmers should also be cautious about feeding garbage to hogs. All gar- bage should be thoroughly cooked be- fore given to the hogs. Complete Wool Sales Records Are Important With the beginning of the new wool marketing year, and shearing time well under way or completed, growers are reminded to get complete sales records if they intend filing for wool incentive payments under the National wool pro- gram, Marketings since March 31 will be. eligible for payments under the 1960 program, John F. Bradley, Administra- tive Officer of the Agricultural Stabili- zation and Conservation State Office, stated today. Sales records should be kept by the producer until an application is filed at the county office. Payments under the 1960 program will not be made until mid- summer of 1961. : Payments under the 1959 wool pro- gram will be made this summer. Growers are also reminded that the grower who receives the highest price for his wool also receives the largest pay- ment under the wool incentive program. The payment rate is the percentage ne- cessary to bring the National average price received by growers during the marketing year up to the incentive level of 62 cents a pound. e e Georgia, First: @ BROILERS @ PROTECTED FOREST LANDS @ PIMENTO PEPPER @ PEANUTS @ IMPROVED PECANS Minimum County Wheat Support To Be $1.94 The basic minimum price-support rate for 1960-crop wheat in Georgia will be $1.94 a bushel. This rate is based on the minimum National average wheat support of $1.77 a bushel for the 1960 crop announced _ last summer, John F. Bradley, Admini- strative Officer of the ASC State Office, announced today. Loans will be available at the minimum rate early in the price- support period. The final rates will be determined on the basis of supply and parity figures as of July 1, and any loans made at the minimum rate will be adjusted as neces- sary at that time.
