Prices were lower in 960 prices may be expected to minimum allowed by law. Geor- t allotments will be 527,762. BACCO acreage allotment in Geor- | be about. 72,443 in 1960. Price rts will be at 90 percent of parity. Georgia is 109,073. The advance um national average support for rill be $1.77 per bushel. Annual use than half the 2.4 billion bushel n hand, Open market prices will w support levels in 1960. Jan. 28, ABAC, Tifton - Dairy Production Short Course. next few months will be higher than normal relative to corn. FRUITS, VEGETABLES, AND NUTS Demand will be strong for fruits and nuts in 1960. Recent plantings of new varieties of peaches in Georgia will main- tain production at recent levels for the near future. Pecan prices have been good in 1959 because of the reduced crop. De- mand for vegetables will be strong in 1960 and prices should be good for most products. : LIVESTOCK Cattle numbers for the U. S. will be - about 102-103 million on January 1, 1960 up about 5 million from last year. Twen- ~ ty percent more cattle were on feed Oc- tober 1, 1959 than a year earlier. As a percent of those on feed the lighter weight groups made up a greater propor- tion of the total as compared to a year earlier. Those from 500-699 lbs. made 17 percent of the total this year and 14 percent last year. Those over 1,100 pounds made 8 percent this year and 9 percent last year. Indications are marketings will be progressively heavier in 1960. Some seasonal price strength will be evident in the late spring and summer months but prices will be below 1959 levels. If numbers continue to increase a more than ~ normal seasonal drop in prices will de- velop next fall and winter. . NUMBER 18 GIA FARM OUTLOOK HOG numbers in late 1959 were at about the peak of the cycle. In 1960 pro- duction may be equal to or slightly above that of 1959. A report of intentions to farrow shows farmers plan 4 percent few- er sows to farrow in the early spring period (December-March). If that occurs a seasonal rise in prices may be expect- ed. If as in the past years an early reduc- tion is followed by a late season reduc- tion prices next fall may be above levels in late 1959. Present indications are that broiler - and egg production will be down a little early in 1960. That should bring some improvement in prices. Higher prices may encourage expanded production so prices could dip again by summer or fall, District Meets For Ag Atumni Are Slated A series of 11 district meetings in _January will launch 1960 activities for the alumni association of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture.
