Phil Campbell, Commissioner WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 1957 = ; NUMBER 33 Sign Up To Preserve Acreage History By PHIL, CAMPBELL _ Commissioner of Agriculture Ss Rhee owners or operators who have not planted all of their allotments or yut them in the soil bank should immediately sign requests to preserve their : ee history. _ Forms for requesting that acreage history be preserved may be obtained from ae offices of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. _ Under the plan a farmer will not lose his acreage history for allotted crops nor will this history be assigned to another farmer. A farmer signing such a re- quest will be given credit for his allotted acreage just as if he had planted it. _ Never before have farmers had the o pportunity to protect their acreage his- tory in this manner and I am glad to see such action on the part of the U. S. De- < _ partment of Agriculture. Ata Congressional Committee hearing dumisis December of 1955, I suggested _ that in times of crop surpluses farmers should be allowed to keep their acreage al- - lotments on the major commodities whether or not they planted the allotted acre- age. I pointed out to the Senate Committee holding the hearing that if a farmer fail- _ ed to plant all his allotment he was actually doing the government a favor by not =. contributing to crop surpluses and should not be penalized, ae The deadlines for signing requests to preserve acreage history are: August Ast for corn, June Ist for. cotton, June 1st for peanuts, and August Ist for burley Soeeee Ae ndash : All farmers who will not use their entire allotments should iroinedintaly sign these requests. They will protect and preserve their acreage history and at the _ same Sie prevent Georgias losing acreage tc other states. oe Sie e\ ae Y Z e e Ge | - Georgia, First: F THE Benth 2c Spe PEANUTS _ PEACHES _ PIMIENTO PEPPER / \F THE MISSISSIPPI 3 oe Oil ie * NAVAL STORES = + IMPROVED PECANS PAGE TWO MARKET BULLE 1917 GEORGIA MARKET BULLETIN Published weekly at 114-122 Pace St. Covington, Ga., by Georgia Department of Agriculture.
