Wilkinson county was the first county to be certified under the program which was expanded following a $300,000 state appropriation in 1956. Nearly 70,000 head of cattle were tested in February alone. The expanded drive against brucellosis. disease is also noticeable in the fewer number of diseased cattle going through =} livestock barns. A few months ago seven percent of all cattle going through live- stock sales barns were infected but today this has been cut to less than 2 percent. addition to Towns and Wilkinson, testing in 10 to 12 other counties indicates that these counties will soon be eligible for certification. A total of 581 herds were tested for brucellosis disease in Towns County.
