Present plans all for the construction of 16 farmer sheds. The covered sheds will be 320 feet long with a 60-foot-wide Crive through the center. A 12-foot-wide display platform will run down each side of the drive-through and the roof will extend out past the platform far enough to offer cover for trucks loaded with pro- duce. Each shed is planned to accommo- date 62 trucks. Buildings for produce dealers and brokerage houses will be 585 feet long with 26 itnits of 1,350 square feet to each building. A 25-foot-wide platform will run down the front of each building with a 15-foot-wide platform with rail facilities at the rear. In the - direct center of the Market the admini- stration building will be located. This building will house eating facilities for white people, rest room facilities, a bar- ber. shop and other service facilities. Eat- ing facilities for Negroes as well as rest room and other facilities will be located in another building. A garage and filling station will also be located on the site _ for-the benefit of truckers and farmers. (Continued on page 4) T Use Care In Buying Rye Seed This Fall Planting northern winter rye with the mistaken belief they were. using Abruzzi rye has resulted in heavy losses over the years to farmers throughout Georgia and the South. Thats the belief of Dr. U. R. Gore, agronomist at the Georgia Experiment _ Station, who reported this week that the selling of northern winter rye seed for Abruzzi is not new in this section. - The College of Agriculture research worker said variety tests at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station at Tifton re- vealed that Balbo, Rosen, and other win- - ter ryes failed to set seed. On the other hand, he stated, Wrens Abruzzi made 37 | bushels per acre. Dr. Gore said planting unadapted va- rieties in many cases is the reason farm- ers in the Coastal Plain get poor yields of rye seed. He added that growers also. take a loss in winter grazing, as most northern types grow slowly and _ rust badly. Of 120 samples of rye from the State Seed Laboratory planted at Experiment and Tifton in 1955, about 20 percent were mislabeled as to variety, Dr. Gore assert- ed. He suggested buying only certified (Continued on page 4)_ SE Fair Is Seeking Old Farm Machinery The building of Cracker Town at the Southeastern Fair, a replica of an old Georgia town, is virtually complete but Lee Carteron, general manager of the fair, says they are still in need of several pieces of old farm machinery. Col. Carteron says they wish to pur- chase old farm machinery such as steam tractors, old grain reapers, binders and thrashers and old mowing machines. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of such machinery should write Col, Lee Carteron, general manager, Southeastern Fait, Southeastern Fair Grounds, At- lanta.
