Bradley, state administrative officer for the Agricultural Stabilization _ and Conservation committee, advises that the support rate for No. 3 or better corn will not be less than $1.31 per bushel. Bradley says that loans will be made _ to eligible producers on 1955-crop corn stored either in approved warehouses or on the farm. ee a Support rates for corn this year in commercial and non-commercial corn- producing areas are based on $1.58 per bushel. This is 87 percent of the Feb. 15. corn parity price. : Bradley explained that rates in the non-commercial producing area, where there are no corn acreage allotments, will be 75 percent of the commercial area sup- : port rate. Georgia is in the non-com- - mercial area, and will have the $1.31 a bushel support rate, _. Further information on the corn loan program is available at county ASC of- fices. Bradley urges farmers to visit coun- ty office managers to discuss the corn situation before placing corn on the mar- ket for less than $1.31. : ao are many questions on the subject yet to be answered. RESULTS LOOK FAVORABLE The results to date from feeding. stil- bestrol to cattle looks most favorable for the beef producer. Increased gains have been made rather consistently in cattle weighing over 600 lbs. and being fed a high grain ration. Lesser increases in gains have been made on: high rough- age type rations. The lateset figures in- dicate that weight gains made by cattle -reciving stilbestrol were increased by about 16 per cent over those not receiving _ it. Another important factor for the beef producer is that the feeding of stilbes- trol in the ration has reduced feed cosis by about 12 per cent. Although feeding stilbestrol has in- creased the daily feed intake of steers by about 3 per cent, the increase in weight gains is greater in proportion resulting in a decrease in feed cost per 100 lbs. gain. To obtain the greatest benefit from NUMBER | ( Keep Herd Additions Apart Ga. Veterinarian Suggests As-a precaution against spread of dis- ease, new cattle should be kept isolated from the home herd, says Dr. Shirley Shephard, president, Ga. Veterinary Med- ical Assn, An initial isolation or quar- antine period of 30 days may mean the difference between only a few sick an- imals or an entire herd of sick animals in case a disease appears among the new arrivals. Ii disease symptoms do appear, the animals that appear to be well should be separated from sick ons and placed in clean, non-infected quarters. A prompt - diagnosis should be obtained so a course of treatment may be followed. Shipping fever is one of the maladies which new animals may develop. Losses are greatest among weanling calves but older cattle may also die in a day or two if treatment is neglected. Losses need not be serious if the condition is immed- iately diagnosed and properly treated. Recently purchased cattle should be re- tested for Bangs disease after the 30- day period before being added to the herd. the hormone it appears that it should be used in conjunction with a high grain ration being fed to steers weighing over - 600 Ibs. However, cattle receiving high levels of molasses have also responded ta stilbestrol feeding. Also it has been ef- fective in improving the performance of heifers and younger animals. READY MIXED The level of stilbestrol in stilbes- trol-treated- feeds is low and is accurately mixed by the feed manufacturers. Feed containing the hormone is labeled accord- ingly. Data available to date indicate that those things in which the meat packers are particularly interested are about the same for stilbestrol-fed animals as for animals not receiving the hormone.
