The rural letter of Georgia ask your cooperation program to have all rural mail r supports made uniform. ANS MUCH TO MAILMAN _ most farm people this will in- very little effort, but it will mean > t to their mailman. ; M ry groups and organizations are erating with the rural mailmen, a- hem the Georgia Future Farmers erica. The drive to erect new, stand- size mail box posts is now under- in over 300 Georgia high schools, 1 much credit due the efforts of T. ers, State ee of Agricul- y rected by FFA members in a a communities. cee ae extra clear- yr the mailmans automobile. The Bo) IMPROVEMENT ASKED eae _ Valuable Cash Crop Seen In Collection of Pine Cones Georgians have a valuable cash-crop income available in pine cone collection. The season for collecting cones was be- - gun last week by the Georgia Korestry Commission and piles of pine cones around country stores have become a familiar sight throughout the state. The- Forestry Commission will pay 50 cents a bushel for longleaf pine cones, 90 cents for slash cones, and $1.25 for loblolly. The Commission will take on more dealers this year and storekeepers inter- ested in serving as cone collecting stat- tions should contact their nearest State - Forest Ranger or write Ga. Forestry Commission, P. O. Box 1183, Macon. All orders for seedlings, as well as other matters concerning forestation should be handled by writing the above address. Georgians are urged to sell their cones to in-state dealers so that the seed will be used in Georgia for the benefit of Georgians. _ing post for uniformity and to counter- balance the boxs weight. The name of the boxholder appears on a suspended wooden bar beneath the box. This type of support, as made by FFA members, has the letters F, F. A. on the support- - ing post. ; PLANS NOW AVAILABLE - Complete plans and specifications are available from Vocational- Agriculture feachers and rural letter carriers. The plans for the supports were drawn through cooperation of The eee of Geor- gia. More than 17,000 FFA boys He part in the standardization program. Dem- onstrations are being held now through- out the state acquainting teachers and high school students with the plan. The demonstrations are being publicized and are open to the public. Especially active in behalf of the pro- gram are G. C. Barnhill, of Glenwood, president of the Georgia Rural Letter Carriers Association, and Carey W. Hil- C Veterinarian Presents Swine Protection Plan Special precautions taken now by swine raisers can help greatly to reduce the annual losses of fall-farrowed pigs _ from disease, said Dr. Shirley Shepard, of Moultrie, president of the Georgia Vet- erinary Medical Association. Dr. Shepard said disease and parasites take a needless toll of nearly one-third of all pigs before they reach market age. To reduce this disease toll Dr. Shep- ard outlined this five-point plan: OFFERS PROTECTION 4. Clean all hog houses thoroughly before cold weather, burning contamina- ~ ted bedding and disinfecting all swine auarters. 2. Have all swine checked for. para- ; _ sites and treated if the condition is se- rious. 3. Have fall pigs ne against, cholera. 4. Have swine iid Tee ery- sipelas in areas where the disease has beena potential threat in the past. 5. Obtain a prompt diagnosis of any signs of sickness so that the losses can *be checked immediately and the disease controlled. Dr. Shepard also suggested that pro- ducing herds should be culled now to improve the spring pig crop. All sows and boars which produce slow-gaining, hard-feding pigs should be eliminated to improve productions. Breeding stock also should be tested for swine brucel- losis, said Dr. Shepard. liard, of Rhine, publicity director of the association. Other association officers are: | J..R.: Bellflower, Chula, vice-president; C. B. McCook, Lizella, sec.-treas; and Ray W. Waldrip, Gainesville, chairman, and L. Roy Lynn, Waycross, executive committeemen. The program, according to Barnhill, is designed to remove from the roadside obsolete and antiquated mail box posts and substitute new uniform posts, there- by improving postal service and adding to the beauty of roadsides. @ PEANUTS - BROILERS Georgia, First: e NAVAL STORES * PEACHES e PIMIENTO PEPPER e IMPROVED PECANS PAGE TWO hs gtk GEORGIA MARKET BULLETIN Address all items for publication and requests to be jn the mailing list and for chamge of address to STATE BU REAU OF MARKETS 222 STATE CAPITOL, Atlanta, put NATIONAL ecatae NS; : ASSOCHATS me | zo 4 a Casa ee ae Notices of farm: produce and repeate of notice. under postage! regulations inserted one time on each request only when request is accompanied by new BODY and appurtenances admissible notices.
