This year, this list has been discontinued, and any corn seed meet- ing other rules and regulations of the Department may be sold in Georgia. This was done because was thought that the farmer is well enough informed about the various hybrids not to be mis- led by extravagant or false elaims but to buy corn of known performance whieh has been tested under conditions similar to his own, : Beeause a corn is a hybrid does not mean that it is good. There are good hybrids which will make the farmer a high yield of weevil resistant corn; there are other hybrids so soft that the weevil would get the entire crop. There are hybrids whose yields are less than our open pollinated varieties. Experiment Station tests show there is sometimes actually a difference in yield between different hybrids of 40 bushels per aere. Hybrids which are good in one area may not be adapted to another. This is so true that, in a state with the climatie conditions of Georgia, recommendations must be made by areas. The College of Agriculture Experi- ment Stations have been conducting tests for a number of years, and there is just out in the hands of agricultural workers the report of the 1934 Corn Performanee Tests in which the Experiment Station workers make the following reeommen- dations for Georgia, ; FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND _ LIMESTONE VALLEY White Hybrid: Tenn. 28, Dixie 38, Georgia 101; Yeliow Hybrids; Tenn. page ES forms will be mailed to you. DED CORN HYB RIDS. CoE Coerndaanenenino ere nene eae OT NER In TIES ~ NOTICE __ MARKS AND BRANDS REGISTRATION At the last session of the General Assembly the marks and brands law was amended to provide for registering with the Com- missioner of Agriculture your mark or brand of livestock. 90, Dixie 22, V.P.I. 802, U.S. 282, N. C. 36 and N. CG. 27. FOR THE PIEDMONT White Hybrids: Georgia 101, Dixie TL, Coker 911, Georgia 108, Funk G-785; Yellow Hybrids: Dixie 82, N. C. 27, Wood S-210, Dixie 18 and Funk G-714 A. _ FOR THE GOASTAL PLAIN For the crib White Hybrid: Go- ker 811; Yellow Hybrid: Dise 18. For Hogging-off Eerly Hybrids: Dinle 33, rgia 101, Dixie 22, N.C. 27 and. Dixie 82. Very Early Hybrids: U.S. 13 and . other midwest hybrids of similar maturity. : None of the corns listed for early hogging-off ia the Goastal Plain should be eribbed due to their lack of resistance to the weevil. There are other corns than those recommended here whieh may prove suitable. A safe rule, if you are in doubt as to what hybrid to buy, is to ask your . Experiment Station or your County Agent. The buyer is also proteeted if he buys Certified seed grown by a member of a Crop Improvement Association, provid- ed, of course, that the hybrid is one adapted to his section. Still another way in which the farmer may protect himself is to purchase from reliable seedsmen who are familiar with and deal in adapted hybrids. It is to the dealers advantage to have satisfied customers and they will keep these cus- tomers only by selling adapted hybrids of proved performanee. GEORGE H. KING Associate Director College of Agriculture Experiment Stations If you desire to register your mark or brand, you may write the Department of Agriculture for application, and all necessary There is no cost for this registration except the recording fee to the Ordinary of the County, in whieh your cattle is located.
