The. yment itself said that 45c was a e for cotton. The Government was a fair price by fixing 45c as ng price. Certainly, the Goy- t cannot justify its action in ask- ne farmers to produce - 16-million of cotton, fixing a-ceiling of 45 per and then sitting idly by and al- the 16-million, bale crop to pee se always want to know be done. The time has come when the cotton farmers must take concerted action to protect themselves and@ their families from suffering the loss. of this . cotton crop. The farmer has within his own hands several complete remedies. He can not only force the price to 45- per pound, but he can force it as high as he sees fit. , rhere are many | farmer can do with or without the lead- ership of those from whom, he has the right to expect leadership. COTTON ISGOOD FERTILIZER Cotton plowed:back~ into the land makes one of the finest fertilizers to be had. It can be plowed in cheaper than it can be picked. If every third bale of cotton were plowed back into the land, the farmer would save one-third of the picking billhe would sell two bales of cotton for more money than he would ' have received for the three bales. One year ago farmers were plowing up cotton as a requirement of the Gov- ernment and cotton went to 45c per pound. Cotton will again go to 45c ina few days if the farmers demonstrate that they will not produce an over-supply. Much of this years cotton crop is planted on land that farmers would have put in peanuts had it not been that the Government restricted the planting of peanuts and encouraged them to plant cotton. plowing under every third row, you would see the price of cotton hit the ceil- ing and bust the ceiling wide open. YOU CAN WHIP THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME If the farmers who are financially able to do so would buy March futures at the present price and then plow under every third row, they would not only get a fair price for their spot cotton, but they _ would take the bears for a ride on the Cotton Exchanges. GOVERNMENT STOCKPILE - The Government needs 5-million bales of cotton for stockpiling purposes. They figure they can get it at the loan price out of the present crop. The minute the Government realizes the farmers are not going to have this cotton crop stolen from them, the Government itself will be forced to get into the market and pay a satisfactory price to the farmers, then things the. The minute the farmer started - -in 1909-14, under the farmers could stop plowing up the: third row and get a minimum of 45c per pound for all the cotton they have left. -T have before me copy of the Federal. Register of July 4, 1951 where on page | 6491, the President signed an Order for ~ _ the importation of 1,500,000 pounds of! foreign cotton. He said at that time that the importation of this cotton would not interfere with the domestic farmer would not reduce substantially the amount of any product processed in | the United States, from cotton produced = in the United States. This cotton has to be purchased in for- eign countries at the world price which is far above the American price and, yet, they would take the very cotton which they ask the farmer to produce as a pa- | triotic service and leave the farmer with- out money to pay debts he incurred in making the cotton crop or to provide food and clothing for his family for the coming winter. : UNLIMITED GOVERNMENT MONEY FOR FORFIGNERS The present Administration in Wash~ ington does not hesitate to ask fox hun- dreds of millions of dollars to be used in encouraging agricultural production. in all the countries of the world. We now have thousands of men employed at -Gove. ernment expense in the countries of Cen: tral America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa to help those countries increase agricultural production. The President does not hesitate to ask Congress, and Congress seldom refuses, to appropriate hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars to furnish free Amer- ican cotton and other American agricul- tural crops to people all over the world. Within the last three days the Presi- dent has asked Congress for several hun- dred million dollars for displaced persons and for taking care of people in South- eastern Asia, On a basis of what a farmer could buy his then standard of living, and what he can buy now under the presnt standard of living, the farm: er. would have to receive 56.70c per pound for this years cotton crop to re: ceive actual parity.
