TOM LINDER. Commissioner of Agriculture: The Georgia 4-H Forestry Program got a distinct boost this month when the Southern Bell Telephone Company agreed to be its sponsor. . This is a part of the telephone companys rural devel- opment program in Georgia. Whereas, the Honorable Tom Linder, Commissioner of Agriculture of the State of Georgia, has rendered unceasing and tireless efforts in behalf of the dairy farmers of Georgia; Whereas, certain employees in his de- partment have been subjected to arrest and threatened prosecution in their dili- gent efforts to enforce the orders of the Commissioner made pursuant to the laws of Georgia; atten Therefore, be it resolved by the Central Georgia Dairy Association of Forsyth, Georgia, that this Association express to the Commissioner of Agriculture and to his employees its profound appreciation for their unceasing and tireless efforts in the enforcement of the milk laws of the State of Georgia: Further -resolved, that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Commissioner of Agriculture of theState of Georgia. This, incidentally, is the first time girls have had an opportunity | a to attend a forestry camp. This week-long camp will be held July @ 30-August 4. Those boys and girls in all Extension Service Districts in Georgia, who are Dis- _ trict winners in 4-H Forestry projects, will receive trips to the Georgia 4-H Con- gress in Atlanta in the fall. The boy champion and girl champion, selected at that Congress, will be sent to the Nation- al 4-H Congress in Chicago. The telephone companys interest in rural development in Georgia has been evidenced in its establishment of rural telephone lines. Last year, a record- year, Southern Bell added an additional 14,500 rural customers. There are more than three times as many telephones on _ : farms in Georgia today than there were five years ago. The Extension Service has pointed out the importance: of forestry in Georgia which is the leading forestry state in the South. It is believed that more forestry devel- opment in the state will improve the economy of the state as a whole as well as adding to the agricultural resources oi its land. PAGE TWO.
