NUMBER 9. WOLUME 33 ditorial By TOM LINDER People from all parts of the globe who sally are acquainted with the people of re South know we are a great people. Unfortunately, the people of the South ave been unmercifully maligned, be- wuse eighty years ago we were forced to all ourselves Democrats (which we are ot) and because our reputation has sen smeared by news gatherers who em- hasized the little things and entirely rerlooked the great things. The following letter from a gentleman Salem, Massachusetts, will give you 1 insight into what I am talking about: e October 19, 1949. Mr. Tom Linder, Department of Agriculture, Atlanta, Ga. Dear Mr. Linder: a - J am in receipt of a copy of the Market Bulletin, dated September 28, _ 1949. I was very much taken in with ms) your comments or Internationalism, More Internationalism, and Lo, and Behold! Still more Internationalism. N@8 =I am not of course, particularly in- call} terested in the notices in the inside pages. Thus I am wondering if the | wil) issue I received in the early part of last cee week, is but a rare one. Do you write d 39% often for this Journal?. I see your pic- ture inside, but it appears there be- cause you are the Commissioner of hal) Agriculture for the State of Georgia. samy Or at least that seems the reason for ckmil) your picture. I am wondering if it would be pos- sible for me to secure copies of the , tt) Market Bulletin whenever you do such Wl an editorial or for that matter, any edi- i torial. You dont see such editorials in 9 the big dailies here in Boston or in my set, #4 town of Salem. Believe me, you dont. amped t-am always here somehow, bound vs to the tradition of Salem, its history, 2 7) its people. I frankly know little of ' the South and then, most everything ty that I read of the South seems to deal s 4 With the KKK, the strained and mount- flow] ing racial tensions, etc. Your editorial Jjoht W) permitted me a glimpse of the South ) Inever knew. Being bound here is no yal! |) indication that the rest of America is pst! not of interest to me. Quite the con- trary. Perhaps, through you, I will learn more of another part of the coun- try, great within itself ,and even great- ~ er in potentiality. ees. Sincerely yours, William L. Kleist, Sa 53 Endicott Street, ere Salem, Massachusetts. At the close-of the War Between the the Republican Administration undertook to force the white people of the South to be Democrats. They adopted the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Federal Constitu- tion. They undertook to force the white people of the South into equality with the blacks and to give the newly freed blacks control of politics in the South. They were trying to make the people of the South Democratie in the sense the world understands the term Democrat. The people of the South, to escape be- ing forced to be Democrats, joined up with the Democrat Party, which at that time stood for rights of the states and White Supremacy. rom that time forward, the South re- mained fanatically loyal to the Democrat Party, and the people of the South de- luded themselves into believing that the word Democrat meant the things that the people of the South believed. Actual- ly, an absolute Democracy and an abso- lute Commune is so near the same thing that only technical differences can be drawn. Under Roosevelt and) Truman, and with the rise to political power of vast Foreign elements in the North, the Na- ional Democrat Party has assumed its true colors and is no longer fit for decent Southern people to be affiliated with. At every session of Congress, we see the Senators and Congressmen from the South subjected to vast indignities and sometimes forced to resort to filibusters to protect the decent people of the South from the Communistie trend of the Na- tional Democratic Administration. In an unlimited Democracy, the will of the majority is the supreme law. This means, in its last analysis, that unlimit- ed Democracy is a mob. History shows that this has been true in every absolute Democracy in the world. In Communism, the will of the ma- jority is also the supreme law. There- fore, a Communist country is also a mob. The only Government possible for a mob is absolute dictatorship, It, there- fore, follows, and we see it in the coun- tries of the world today, that would-be dictators first advocate Simon Pure Democracy, or Communism as a'prelude to setting up a dictatorship over the mob. Simon Pure Democracy includes racial equality, and majority rule with no rights of minorities which the ma- jority is bound to respect. LETTER FROM ATLANTA LADY AND QUOTATIONS FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON Atlanta, Georgia, October 20, 1949. Hon Tom Linder, Atlanta, Georgia. Dear Mr. Linder: I certainly agree with the writer of the letter in last weeks issue of the Market Bulletin, Mr. W. O. German of Springfield, [Iil. You do simplify things in a way that ordinary mortals such as I are able to understand them. I have copied the enclosed state- ments of George Washington from an old book in my library. They are so applicable to the present times. Es- ecially his views on price control. hought you might like to read them, I am, Sincerely, Mrs, E. Stewart, 645 Kennesaw Ave., N. E. Finance Page 125 Maxims of Washington The State of the Currency, the Nations great evil. Nothing, I am convinced, but the de- preciation of our currency, has fed the hopes of the enemy and kept the British arms in America to this day. They do not scruple to declare this themselves; and, that we shall be our own conquerors. Cannot our common country, America, possess virtue enough to disappoint them? Is the paltry consideration of a little pelf to individuals, to be placed in competition with the essential rights and liberties of the present generation, and of millions yet unborn? Shall a few designing men, for their on -aggrandizement, and to gratify their own avarice, overset the goodly fabric we have been rearing at the expense of so much time, blood, and treasure? Shall we at last become the victims of our own lust of gain? Forbid it, Heaven! Forbid it, all and every State of the Union, by enacting and enforcing efficaci- ous laws for checking the growth of these monstrous evils, and restoring matters, in some degree, to the state they were in at the commencement of the war! Speculations in the Currency This tribe of black gentry work more effectually against us, than the enemys arms. They are a hundred times more dan- gerous to our liberties, and the great cause we are engaged in.1779. It is much to be lamented, that each State, long ere this, has not hunted them down, as pests to society, and the greates} (Continued on Page Hight), PAGE LWOUO> MARKET BULLETIN % Wednesday, N vembe!
