There is not a reputable physician -

that pasteurization of rotten milk will 
make Grade A milk out of it.

of the best authorities in the State of

If you want raw milk you have a 
right to buy raw milk. "The Georgia 
 
Law provides for you to have raw mit 
 
and the Georgia Law is more rigid than 
any City Ordinance for the production 
of raw milk. 
 
I want to repeat that this is not a 
raw 
milk but. it is a question of wholesome 
milk versus slops

HEALTHY COWSSince 1911, the Geor- 
gia Department of AgricuJture, in co-op- 
eration with the United States Bureau of 
Animal Industry, has been testing and re- 
testing cattle engaged in milk production 
for human consumption for tuberculdsis 
and contagious abortion (Bangs Disease). 
The State of Georgia is now on the federal 
accredited list as reasonably free of these 
infections. 
 
As far as the purity of the milk supply 
is concerned, Mastitis, especially the chron- 
ic form, is more detrimental than any other 
disease. Therefore, cattle affected with Mas- 
titis ought to be eliminated from the milk- 
ing herds 
 
Cows afflicted with acute diseases gen- 
erally stop lactating; but, even so, no sick 
cow has any business in a dairy barn and 
her milk, if she gives any, should not be 
sold for human consumption.

surroundings disgust him. He gets a thrill

too. If, by any chance, you hire a dirty in-. 
dividual to do your milking, you will find 
that even good pay will not make him clean. 
He is dirty and apparently not ashamed _ 
of it. 
 
PROMPT COOLING OF MILK. Nothing 
in connection with the production and hand- 
ling of milk is of greater importance. 
 
There is no way on earth to commercial- 
ly produce sterile milk, nor is that neces- 
sary. Under normal fan condition 
greatest bacterial invader is the lactic acid 
bacteria. If the milk is not promptly cooled . 
to 45 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, the lac- 
tic acid bacteria multiply rapidly, the millx 
sours, is churned and the fat gathered as 
 
butter. The residue, the saturated bacter- 
ial solutionknown as buttermilkis one _ 
 
of the finest health drinks known to man. 
~ Of course, other bacteria at times gain 
entrance into the milk. but, if the milk is. 
promptly cooled and kept cool, bacteria 
multiply very slowly, and with healthy 
cows and clean milkers you can safely 
eliminate. pathogenic. bacteria_ as part of 
the bacterial crop in the milk. 
 
It is not only essential. that the fatten: : 
 
producer and distributor keep the milk 
cool, the housewife, hotels and restaurants 
must keep the milk properly refrigerated - 
until consumed. :
