_Tom LINDER 2 ditorial By TOM LINDER \DE HL ae : 200 West olth Street | New York 19, N. x, Sept. 25, 1946. Sincerely, Wade a Armstrong. above letter is self-explanatory. lo. not have oleo from soy bean cottonseed oil because the ceil- d by OPA do not induce the pay a price that the farmers ord to produce a supply. have butter because _ WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER a 1946 total of $119,404,000 cream will bring more money per gal- lon of milk than the butter will bring. Therefore, the. butter is not manufac- tured. The Administration has been so de- termined to take the farmers products below cost of production in order to buy votes in the densely populated cit- ies of the North and East. They are ~ rapidly bringing on a desperate food situation in the entire nation. With the November elections just around the corner, the Administration is afraid to lift price control for fear of the big city vote. eentrols remain in effect means the more acute food supply in the future. The national Administration is like the. Trishman who swallowed an egg. He was afraid to walk for fear of breaking the egg. He was afraid to sit down for | and lights. fear it would hatch. Foreign gee ae labor eorgia Farm Income 6 Millions Under 45 By Ken Turner WASHINGTON, Sept. 27Geor- gias farm income for the first six months of 1946 fell off more than 56, - 000,000 from the corresponding year in 1945, the Bureau of Agricultural Econ- omics of the Department of Agriculture reported Friday. Cash receipts from marketings in the state totalled $113,261,000 during the first half of 1946 as compared with a for the same period in 1945, the Bureau said. The reduction resulted from a sharp decline in marketing of live stock and live stock products. In the 1946 period sales of roe stock and products aggregated $49 611,000 while a year ago for the first half of. the year they tetaled ie 061 000 or *1, oe 499, 0003 more. They are likewise afraid to continue price control because every one knows that every day price leaders. have become so powerful they can shut down all the ships in American po ts and the Government is helpless to At the same ti companies an anything about. it. the Government has regiments of F. B. I. men in little tow: in the states trying to ferret out a | individual law breakers. The great unorganized majority: _Americans farmers, w hi t e coll workers, professional people, poli and other law enforcement officers have no rights under existing rule b organized minorities. 7 Such cattle, as the alien Han Bridges, who has been sponsored, e couraged, and abetted by the Admi istration of Roosevelt and Truman threaten to overthrow all pak ae law and government. Tn the great city of Pichi thi week the entire population was dangered by strike of employees who shut down all transportation, power, The established constit tional court for the protection of the health and safety of the entire popul tion issued an injunction to preven the tie-up of all these public utilities. The federal Government, instead 0. the constitutional rights of the peopl of Pittsburgh, sent federal agents down to Pittsburgh and prevailed up- on the court to dissolve the injunetic and turn the city over to the strikers Here in Atlanta out on Edgewood Ave. nue you can see a sorry, no accoun bunch of Negroes and Whites mar ing up and dow n the sidewalk toget e carrying big banners striking agains a laundry. A day or two ago a laund station was blown up with dynamite right here in Atlanta. While the Administration is worr ing about the Chinese,. the Russians and the Wild Man of Borneo, our own house is falling in on our ee ic are much nearer to internal strife thar we are to war with other countries. is high time that we get some one it Washington who is eapable of realizing this. Any administration that will deli erately rob its own farmers, while at the same time pay exorbitant prices foreign farmers shows a complete of fidelity to the United States and people. = TOM LINDER, | Commissioner of Agri NATIO S 4 0 - Address all items for publication and all requests to be put | on the mailing list and for change of address tu STATE BUREAU OF MARKETS, 222 STATE CAPITOL, Atlanta. It is not advisable to have says the breeding and negative the report, if herd is clean to the Bangs disease blood test, or if the herd is supplying raw milk to city users, or if the farmer expects to sell breeding iStock to buyers in other states. The report favors adult vac- cination, however, where signs |. indicate. an outbreak of bru- cellosis is starting in a good herd of cattle. It also recom- mends vaccination of and bull calves 4 - 8 months old. No farmer can bebe tS con- trol or overcome by vaccination alone, Vet- erinary authorities have found that the ideal program for the dairy farmer is a combination of calfhood -vaccination. coupl- _ HOGS FOR SALE nn a en Reg. BLOAT IN CATTLECali- fornia investigators have found that succulent legumes and concentrates are respon- sible for bloat in cattle, since they contain a minimum of fiber. A commonly accepted theory of bloat is that an ex- cessive amount of gas is form- ed:in the rumen when the an- imals are. pastured on green legumes. These experiment workers believe that bloat is by interference with belching. There is lack of sufficient fi- ber of proper type to initiate belching. The investigators animal be prevented from eat- ing an excess of succulent foods lacing .in: fiber. The practice of the investigators was to feed the animals palat- ble hay before turning them to Jegume pasture. * oO a i SULFONAMIDE DRUGS FOR CALVES Workers at sulfapyridine in treatment of calf pneumonia with excellent results. | Sulfaguanidine also has given: promising results when used for calf scours if administered in the early stages of the disease. * % a EARLY-CUT IOR over a 3-year period at that late-cut hay aonisined only four-fifths as much total digestible nutrient as that cut + earlier. RESULTS: OF EXTENSIVE EXPERIMENTAL W OR K indicate that a good cheddar cheese of uniform .quality can consistently be made from pasteurized milk when milk is originally of good quality. However, zation does not quality of cheese made from poor milk. Milk of good qual- |ity, when pasteurized, will produce a cheese which can be cured at. a temperature as high as 50 degrees Fahrenheit with good results. These facts | were brought out in an article in the Journal of Dairy Sci- ;ence by authors H. L. Wilson, S. A. Hall, and L. A. Rogers. SEVEN MALES AND 15 FE- -|MALES,representing the va- rious dairy breeds, were fed a ration made up of feeds lack- ing in Vitamin E. In all cases, it was found that growth and physical and sexual develop- ment were normal. The fe- males calved normally on this ration, and all calves were nor- mal in size and vigorous. at | birth. WHILE SKIMMILK is slightly lower in vitamin A and calories than whole milk, it contains more _ calcium, and other minerals than cream contains; and its content of riboflavin and thiamin com- pares very favorable with the amount of these vitamins in cream. % a CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF 14 SELECTED PASTURE ; GRASSES showed total pro- | tein averages of 16.43 per cent when cut in the pre-bloom stage, 11.22 per cent at early calf crop production only, vac-| recommend that roughage of -|a course stemy nature be ce part of the diet, or that the the Pennsylvania Agricultural | COWS fed black hay Experiment Station. have used By Two 4.
