On this basis, and assuming that the same -yatio held good for the entire 255,350 bales, An- derson-Clayton & Company, Inc., received $3,- 485,527.50 more for this cotton than. the farmers could have received for the same amount of the same kind of cotton-on the same date. You remember when the OPA set ceilings on eotton goods and yarns, in the first instance. These ceilings were based on the farmer feceiv- ing 21.45 cents for middling cotton of 7-8 inch staple at the farm. 21.45 cents at the farm was _ Supposed to have given the farmer approximate- ly 22 cents,for his cotton when hauled to town. It would have given the farmer approximately: dach staple. It would have given the farmer ap- proximately 23 cents for strict middling cotton with 15-16 inch staple. ~ Notwithstanding this elias fixed by OPA on textiles and yarns, the farmer continued to get, at that time, 18 and 19 cents per pound for his cotton. _ * You and I-know that a bale of cotton today.
