TOM LINDER * 7 COM MISSION ER_ WEDNESDAY, AUP, 12, 1944 EDITORIALBy Tom, Linder Genesis 1:10: And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas; and God saw that it. was good. All creation on this earth consists of three great di- visions, Namely, the mineral kingdom, the vegetable king- : op and the animal kingdom. The animal kingdom is dependent upon vegetation. : egetat tion is dependent on the land. Without land, there Id be no vegetable kingdom and there could be no ani- val kingdom. While the land ie many minerals and chemicals ecessary to plant life, it is the soil on the surface of the d which creates a condition favorable to the growth of nt: life. For this reason, the value of all land for agricultural purposes is determined by the amount and richness of the soil which covers its surface. The history of nations in the past can be read in the stage of the soil on which those nations depended for ood, The future history of this nation in years to come, n be read in our treatment of the soil. it we continue to waste the soil from the surface of our farms, we will become a nation dependent upon other parts: the world for our food. Tf we build and conserve the sou, we can become more Independent as the years go by. HONORABLE PAUL BROWN ; ~ Honorable Paul Brown, who represents the Tenth District as Congressman, was present and introduced Senator Russell at the meeting. Senator Russell made a very interesting | talk, deseribing his trip around the world, visit- ing the different countries where our bore are fighting. | : Jongressman Browns home is in Elberton. He and Mrs. Brown were at home for a few, days during the Congressional holiday. Paul Brown, as he is generally known, has made a splendid record as a Congressman, Hard work done by Mr. Brown in getting vital amend- ments attached to legislative | measures is largely responsible for recent rise in the cotton market. Cotton is now, and always will be, a vital erop in a belt which God made suitable for the cotton plant. No greater service can be rendered to the people of the cotton belt than is done by Congressmen and Senators who extend their best efforts in protecting the cotton farmers in the price of cotton and cottonseed.
