DEPARTMENT? AGRICULTU RE TOM LINDER ey COMMISSIONER WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1942. xtending To All My Friends Sincere Christmas Greetings! amd dy Faroest Wish For a Happier and Brighter New Year Your Friend, 4 es ae BEE He Ge a } TOM LINDER Commissioner of Agriculture IN EARTH PEACE, ood Will Toward Men SORiAL as Tom Linder The angels brought these good tidings to the shepherds. angels were announcing the good will of God to mankind, enunciation has been widely misinterpreted throughout the Many of our leaders have interpreted it to mean good will hrist, during His ministry, told his ple. TI came not 6 send peace, but a sword. hrist came to bring war on earth eee Satan. He knew ar between His followers and the followers of Satan was table. That was the meaning of His words, I came not to peace, but a sword. In time of war it is almost the universal practice for men/to get how ay eniy we are and to talk about God being on Tes Christ said, He that is not with me is against me. It is question of which side God is onGod is on His own side. ntirely a question of whether or not we are on Gods side. We read in the Bible how Christ gazed over Jerusalem and _ QO Jerusalem, Jerusalem, how often would I have gathered children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens un- her wings, and ye would not! At Christmas time in 1942 the so-called Christian Nations are y with each other and with the heathen. We are in such of trouble as the world has never seen. As Christ looks today over the world where He was cruci- no doubt He is saying to hundreds of millions to whom His p 1 has been preached,- How often would I have gathered hildren together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens . er her wings, and ye would not! The kingdoms'of this world were clearly given over for a eto the rule of Satan, according to the scriptures. atan has been permitted to have his way with the kingdoms s permitted to plague J ob. All this is according to the purpose of God, which we are given to understand. We do know that Satan was given rule over kingdoms be- ase he took Christ into a high mountain and tempted Christ offering to give Him the kingdoms of the world if He would 1 down and worship him. Christ could not have been deceiv- d by Satan and it would have been no temptation to Christ to ave been offered the kingdoms of the world by Satan, if Christ had not recognized that for a while they did actually belong t Satan. The Bible teaches us that nations will continue to go to we with each other, and that mankind will become more wicked as the years go by until the great battle of the Armageddon; then Christ will come back, Satan will be bound with a great chain for a thousand years, and during that thousand yea Christ and His saints will reign, and then, and not until ther will swords be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks. It has been more than nineteen hundred years since Chris 5 was crucified on Golgotha. The years goona pace. Generation after generation is born, lives and dies. The time BDUPOSER we know not how long, when Christ will come again. It seems to me that the observance of Christmas in this ag should have a double meaning. In olden times the Jews observed the Feast of the Passover The observation of the Feast of the Passover had a double mean- ingit was in remembrance of the deliverance of the Children of Israel from Egyptian bondage, and if was also typical of the coming of Christ. aon In the same spirit it seems to me today, we should observe Christmas. We should observe Christmas remembering His coming to earth to labor among men and be crucified. We should also observe Christmas looking forward to His second coming and the end of mans puny and futile efforts to imitate Nebu- chadnezzar in building a great city. For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. As we observe this Christmas Viletide in 1942, every ne believer and follower of Christ must be looking forward to His reappearance and His enthronement as the Prince of Peace.
