(Continued from Page One) The y group that have been radically de ess than they were in 1919 except the farmer. _ farmers are the onl deflated. | For Wickard, Ginsberg, Henderson, Baruch and Company, to have the gall and effrontery to charge the American farmer with being a hog and causing inflation, is disgusting to thinking men. The farmer cannot continue producing under these conditions. it is impossible, The farmer in America today is very much in the same situation as the pioneers were in the war of a Revolution. - While they are fighting a foreign foe, they are Sedinaitied at all times to demand themselves pepinst the Tories at home. ; Our boys are on the firing line in many foreign countries. A steady production of farm products is as vital to winning a war as the production of war materials. Food for our boys over the seas, and food for our city populations, is as necessary as anything for Zz If Congress cannot correct this condition the farmers themselves will be compelled to take strong action to free their hands from these impossible chains that Wickard, Ginsberg, Henderson, Baruch. = Company, are forging on them. _It is time for the farmers to organize thoroughly, iit is time for the Grange, the Guild, the Farm Federa- tion, and all other farm organizations to be prepar- ed to throw their combined strength into the fight. | It is time for each organization to see that it is headed by men who can neither be influenced or in- timidated. It looks now as though the time is rapidly ap- roaching when the only salvation of the American armer will be an organization as strong as the other groups which are now able to protect themselves in een: Secretary Wickard Wecsivad. Congress when he appeared before the Senate Committee and pre- tended that he was in favor of adequate prices for|- the farmers, ; He deceived all those ota and congressmen who are friends of the farmer and who voted for amendments to curb Hendersons depredations on the farmer. . He deceived the farmers when he appeared be- fore the Senate Committee and pretended that he was not in accord with Leon Hendersons starvation prices for farm products. He betrayed his own farm organization, operat- ing under his own Department, when he deceived them into getting telegrams to Washington asking at he be given the veto power in the case of ceilings farm products. They were deceived into believing that he was not as hostile to agriculture as Henderson. The Commissioners, Secretaries and Directors of Agriculture of the several states, together with repre- sentatives of all farm groups, should have a national convention at once and agree upon an affirmative course to pursue. - Unless this is gone-untess Ginsberg, Wickard, Morzenthau., Henderson, Baruch and Company, are stopped, they will create confusion and unprepared- n ss by the side of which Pearl Harbor will be as fo Wickard is supposed to be the friend the farmer. | = wea like for ap answer one : . jin the demand for syrup. question: Wy ould ane Aotedn per pay more for supplies than he paid in 1919, and at the same time Sell his products for less than half of what he received in 1919? TOM LINDER, Commissioner of Agriculture. oe : SUGAR AND SYRUP We are told that in about a month the Govern- ment will begin to ration sugar. It seems now the allowance will be about three-fourths of a wee per|5 week for each person. J am informed that the Government is using a lot of sugar and@molasses to distill alcohol for mili- tary use. I am also informed by some feed manufacturers that the price of molasses is getting entirely too high to use in feed and that the supply is very limited. - . The farmers of Georgia produce the finest sugar cane syrup in the world. For years they have sold this syrup at very low prices. The shortage of sugar will cause a rapid increase Good syrup should bring at least 60c a gallon within the next sixty days. . If you have syrup on hand do not sacrifice it at xo low a price. 4 * TOM LINDER, Commissioner of Agriculture i G. V. CUNNINGHAM AND 4-H CLUBS I note from news dispatches that Mr. G. V. Cunningham has resignedas 4-H Club Leader. Through the years Mr. Cunningham has worked hard to accomplish something very practical and very}; definite for boys and girls. He urged them to get all the education they could, but especially a high school education. During recent years he established the dormi- tories at the University where boys and girls are priv- ileged to live and to bring produce from their homes to help pay their board. This enabled them to get credits on college expenses just the same as if they had brought the cash. I do not know how many 4- He boys and girls from Georgia farms have been able to obtain college degrees because of the efforts of this man, with a vision. I do not have the figures at hand, but I do know that the number runs into the hundreds. What Cunningham and his aides have done, others can do, and I sincerely hope that this work is carried on through the years for 4-H boys and girls. The importance that 4-H Club work has assumed in Georgia,is tremendous. I want the people of Georgia to know that this Department is glad of this continued growth because it means so much for our Georgia boys and girls, especially those living on the farm. These are trying days. Money is scarce on the farm and many mothers and fathers do not know where to turn as they make plans to send their sons and daughters to college in hope of preparing them for lives of usefulness. . What Cunningham has spiration to others. We congratulate the new leader on being called to such far reaching service, with such unlimited possibilities for good. done should be an inte TOM LINDER, Commissioner of Agriculture FLOWERS AND SEED FOR SALE FLOWERS AND SEED FOR SALE | ft Iris 10 labeled 50 for $1.15: Quince thorn rose, red 2-3 in. bunch, 25-35c ea. rooted; Almond pink rose 10, 15, 24 and 35c ea.: Jap honeysuckle S24 tt. 1020, (2oe, eas. Dear Mr. Linder: ae of a few farmers around southern syrup. year. subj ect.. tiller of the soil, lam, Lewisport, Ky. Yours truly, lA LETTER TO THE COMMISSION Lewisport, Ky. Commissioner of Agriculture, About a year ago you asked me for the na 1e; here that you might them your Market Bulletin. I think you should k some of the results of that request. Z After some inquiry I find they are -receivi your bulletin and wish to express their appreciatic I find considerable trading has been done betw our farmers and yours on various commodities. Found one merchant who had been supplied a copy of yo bulletin by a farmer friend, was buying direct | cans and peanuts, some purchased honey and yo I want you to know you have re dered a service to your people and they probabl not know how it came about. that you are certainly the farmers friend by tak the initiative in many fights for better Agricu tu conditions and compliment your editorials. The thought has occurred to me that if. _y farmers would form Co-operatives and sell som their commodities collectively through an organiz tion. similar to ours, their outlet would be so mu greater, since an organization or selling agency do reduce the handling cost and the volume would | materially increased. Be glad to give you full repo of our organization if interested. and the writer organized the Kentuck Sorghu Growers in 1938 and he is now the Director of Ma kets of our State Department at Frankfort, hi been elevated to that position first of September th Have heard man Mr. J.
