I confidently believe that if the soil methods, adopted by the Roosevelt admin- on are followed for the next ten years as eo for the last four or five years, that the gia and the southern farming area wijl be mpletely re-made, which will mean a new day paeficial effect and if continued, more good will follow. om year to year in othe future, I expect. to, Georgia farm. income increase gradually, foes of fresh vegetables prevailing on the Farmers Market, December 28th: | G PLES, Golden Delicious, bu. __--$1-15-$1.25 BEANS, per bu. hamper 1.50- 1.65 CABBAGE, bulk, per cwt. 1.50- 1.75 LARDS, per doz. bunches _.___..._ .50-. .60 ISTARD GREENS, per WU, 2 30- 65 ATOES, 100-lb. sack SAS GUA ees _. 1.75- 2:00 ASH (Yellow Crookneck) bu. 1.50- 1.75 EET POTATOES, per CW eee 1.25- 1-35 RNIPS, bunched, per doz. 40- .60 RNIP SALAD, Pic ae 50- .65 wheceby more and oe crops will be ero along with a gain in livestock and poultry. We have made some progress recently. toward getting lower freight rates, which will help some, , and while the progress will be gradual, I expect Georgia and all the Southern states to increase he farm income from year to year. Peanut Pork Week Set i in | Georgia. Gonteclones Colninbus Roberts has issued a call for Georgia people to observe the week of Jan. 15-20 as Peanut-Pork Products Week. This is done, says our people the high value of peanut-fed hogs and to show them the importance of this industry. Mr. Roberts also stated that a Peanut-Pork ' Products? show will be held at the Farmers Mar- ket on Glen Iris Drive in Atlanta during that week. Mr. C. H. Bishop will be manager of the Show. Georgia is fortunate, says Mr. Roberts, having every major packing firm of the nation = : erate plants in this state which last year processed aed one million Georgia hogs, which were fed, for the | most part, on Peanuts. Tests show that Peanut. Fed hams are equal in flavor to other hams and Georgia is fortunate in being a. leader in this kind of meat. In raising hogs, we are not only diverse our. crops, but we are producing both hogs and peanutstwo crops in one. The hogs root up their own peanut feed and get fat, thus saving the farm-_ er the trouble and expense of harvesting the pea- nuts for the hogs. Georgia is increasing Cae number of hows, : there being more on Georgia farms in Jan. 1; 1939, Atlanta Spot Cotton . Atlania spot cotton closed today at 10.79c basis | middling 15/16 inch staple. The average price of middling 15/16 inch cot- ton at the ten southern spot Markets today was | 10, 86c per pound. . Middling 7/8 inch average was 10.68 a pound. Mr. Roberts, not only e : boost the consumption of pork but to stress upon | Wyatt H. Foster, of Rome. tS than ever before. Georgia farmers reported 3 i ial 000 pigs and: hogs on the farms this year, com -pared with 1,312,000 in ga gain of 242 oO, the last nine years. Georgia meat packers ana grocery: nen are urged to join in this move to further the use of Georgia pork products, thus helping themselves and the hog growers at the same time. Mr. Roberts stated that the U. S. Department of Agriculture reports Georgia farmers received $25, 000,000 gross, for hogs and hog products SOM: last year. This puts our hog crop next to cotton in cash -value, he said, _ Rome Livestock Meeting ROME, Ga.
