That co-oper- ce. o market an article than to produce it. mas L. Ayers, Economist from the Agricul- epartment at Washington, gave us a new n what the Agricultural Adjustment Admin- \ ion is trying to do for the farmer. He said: all know what a doubletree is. Well, here g one end and industry pulling the other. ustry is organized, so they go to Congress and hem to enact tariff laws so they can charge for what they manufacture, This lengthens nd of the doubletree and naturally makes er for the farmer to keep up his end. Then rganizes and says, for instance, that brick must have $12.00 per day, which still further ns the odds against the farmer who, unor- ,:has been unable to help himself or do t 1ing about increasing his end of the doubletree. Here the Agricultural Adjustment Administra- through crop benefits and soil conservation ents, is trying to extend the farmers end and ings up as much as possible with industry. hrough OP allotments , they are trying to Prices of F oo. Also to encourage farmers to produce ae the food and feed they need. Columbus Roberts, Commissioner of Ag aadthire! made the statements that it takes two Georgia cotton crops to pay for. the food and feed shipped into this state in one year That what is needed in this state is more education so that our people would come to a realization of the real situation. Also that Georgia needs more than anything: else a big cen- tral State Farmers Market. in Atlanta, to accom- modate and give a sales service to any and all farmers in the state. He stated that already the State has the necessary land and that all that is needed now is to finance it, Here the big trucks from all over the United States could come and sell their loads and purchase Georgia produce in return. Mr. Roberts stated that he is in favor of free trade and opposed to all state barriers in the way of license or other taxes on out-of-state trucks. | L. L. French, of the Atlantic Commission Com- pany, gave a very fine sales talk in which he brought out the fact that to maintainprices co- operation is necessary, co-operation through which brands and grades could be established which could _ be used to maintain the price structure. He also brought out the fact that the chain stores, with their big organization, are in position to advertise and create a demand for such a product. - also able to push and dispose of surpluses of farm produce which the independent dealers could, not. handle. For that reason they are of great benefit to southern farmers in disposing of watermelons and other produce in quantities. He also empha- sized the fact that the vegetable grower must con- sider the ultimate personal consumer as his cus-- tomers and not simply the commission house or } truckers who first handled his produce. To create a demand, always keep the final re- tail buyer in mind. If he is pleased he will return for more and then the merchant will order more to supply this demand. Mr R. F. Sams, Jr., was re-elected President for. |: the coming year. Seed Treatment Showed Twenty-five Per Cent Better Stand and $5.73 More Cotton Per Acre Than Untreated Seed. The above statement is made by the Georgia Experiment station, Experiment, Georgia, in Press. Bulletin 468. See your County Agent about this at once and: arrange totreat your seed. He can tell you just what to do. It will only cost about ten cents a bushel for the dust with which to treat the seed and the increased yield certainly makes it. worth while. They are ~ ue Pomc Cured Hams. . The best way to keep oe cured hams through - the summer is to wrap them in parchment paper | and then place them in a-fly-proof muslin bag. This method won out over several other methods in tests conducted over a three year period by the i United States Department of Agriculture. The above comes from the Georgia Agric: wracal Extension So Oats For Hay We have been asked about the value of oat hay ee Sie compared with Timothy hay. The analysis of the two brings out the fact that where both oats and Timothy are cut when in bloom the oat hay carries somewhat. more food value than PamORnY: Sweet Potatoes 7 ~The analysis of sweet potatoes reveals the fact that they contain more than twice as much potash as they do nitrogen and five times as much potash as phosphoric acid To meet this demand it woul seem advisable to use a fertilizer containing relatively Targe amount of potash in comparison to. the other elements of plant food. While it would not be wise to reduce the nitro- e gen and phosphoric acid to correspond with the | above analysis, it has been proved that a very high per cent of potash will pay on sweet potatoes. (Caution). Where ten to twelve per cent of. potash is contained in a sweet potato fertilizer, it should be appliedas a top dressing after the plants have taken root.
