SOW MORE WHEAT OATS AND LEGUMES 
 
It is very profitable to sow rye, while it is not a 
legume, it furnishes a great deal of humus in the soil 
which prevents the ground from baking and aids i in con- 
serving moisture. 
 
Probably nothing has so oxippled: farming in our 
State as the heavy drain on it from the cost of fertilizer. 
 
ye We can no longer succeed in farming i in the old slip 
_ shod way. When a Texas farmer can plant and cultivat 
two hundred acres of cotton alone without any fertilizer | 
and pick a bale an hour with a mechanical picker, it is not 
difficult for us to sense the imminent danger of having to 
~ leave cotton out of our farm program.
