Tf DE PARTMENTiOf| f lg G. o ese ts . STATE CAPITOL PUBLISHED BY THE BUREAU OF MARKETS ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1934. NOTICE TO OWNERS OF COTTON STORE The Commodity Credit Corporation has recently told rarehousemen that upon their request the Corporation will grant permission to. insure stored. cotton in companies not licensed to do business i in the. State, and has sent out a form of pplication together with such announcement. This is dangerous to: the interests of owners of stored cot- ton. The Law of Georgia. has provided that certain qualifica- tions shall be met. by insurance companies dsizing to transact _ business in this State. These qualifications have to deal largely with the financial responsibility. of the.companies, and the com-. panies are required to deposit $25,000 in securities with the _ State Treasurer to guarantee performance of obligation. Some | 200 companies have met these requirements and. -are licnsed. There i is no excuse for amy warehousemam to place in unauthor- ized er unlicensed companies insurance either upon his Own mreperty er upen the erieats of others in his custody. If he does'this, it: is usually because he thinks by. so doing he can save himself a few dollars in. premiums, but at the same time he de-- : prives his customers of the right te go. into the courts of Geor. gia in the event of. a fire loss on which there may be some dis pute as to payment. The courts of. Ceoreia have no control. over imsurance companies of other states not licensed here, and it : would! therefore become necessary for the owner of the cotten to go into the state of domicile of the insurance company in or: der to:conduct suit if suit became necessary. Keep in mind that a warehouseman. who: does not carry, with a company licensed in Georgia insurance upon property stored by him. is depriving his customers of preper protection and offering something cheap and useless as a substitute. -ENSURANCE DEPARTMENT, STATE OF GEORGIA _W.
