" Second-Hand Farm Machinery Monthly Supplement _ CEORCIA 8 AGRICULTUREK = tif eas ey *COMMISSLONEt ae _ PUBLISHED BY THE BUREAU Or MARKETSJ. F. GREER, DIRECTOR STATE CAPITOL ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, MAY 8, 1934. VOLUME 17. In order that there may be no confusion in the minds of the people of the state as a result of statements and charges com gz from antagonistic sources to this Department, I wish to outline the Cooperative Tuberculosis Eradication Program which is ne in operation between this Department and the Federal Government. : : This work is now in progress in several counties of this state and the program Aaticipates that the work will ultimately be dene in every county of the state. I have secured the co-operation of the United States Bureau of Animal Industry, Washington, D. C which has placed Dr. A. L. Hirleman, Inspector in Charge in this state, with Dr. W. E. White, Chief of the Veterinary Advisory Board of this Department, to. carry on this work in the counties of the state which do not have State and redo recognition a a Modified Accredited- Tuberculosis Free Area. , = This program contemplates that the counties desiring to receive such recognition enter into an aefeermcnt with the representa- tives of the State and Federal Bureau that they will furnish ear tags, transportation within the county, helpers for Veterinarians while engaged in this work, and that they will pay an equal amount with the Federal Government for the purpose of reimburs ing the owners of animals which are slaughtered on account of having reacted to the Tuberc ulin test. Re These agreements between the counties and the State and Federal Government are } Sdontient with the agreements entered into by those counties in which the work has already been concluded. As I have already stated, this program is now under way an is contemplated that every county which does not now have the recognition of the. State and F ederal Government as a Modi- fied Accredited Tuberculosis Free Area will in its turn receive the benefits of this program. The County Commissioners of the edunties which are not in the accredited area may now enter into an agreement with, State and Federal Representatives to have this work done and the tests will be made in these counties just as rapidly as possibl Perscns u friendly to me have sought to create the impression that I would be unable to obtain the cooperation of the Fede Government in this program and | felt that I should take this opportunity to say to the people interested in this work that if now under way with the full cooperation of the Federal Government.
