"Second: Hand Farm Machinery, Flower and Seed, Incubator and Ornamental Nursery Stock Monthly Supplement i ve ff) AGRICULTURE G.c. aDaMs, C7 COMMISSIONER oe PUBLISHED BY THE BUREAU OF Vie F. GREER, DIRECTOR. VOLUME 16. STATE CAPITOL ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY AUGUST 31, 1983. NUMBER 35. BACK TO THE FARM I find a number of people living in the cities who own farm lands in the country. They find it unprofitable to try to farm these lands from a distance. They would like to exchange these farms for homes in the cities | nearest them so that they could look after them without expense. _. Probably there are as many people who own city property who would be glad to exchange it for farm lands. Many families in the towns are not employed, but they could be employed if they were on the farm. Not only would there be employment for all the members of the family, but the environment in the country would be much better for the growing children. This exchange of property would greatly: encourage the Back to the Farm movement. I shall be very happy to assist in any way I can in this plan to place on the non-resident farms of our state as many home owners as possible. This would tend to give stability and contentment to a large number of people who are not reaping their just rewards from their surroundings. There is no home quite so well sit- uated as one out in Gods open country. Those who own such property in the towns or in the country will please cooper tc in this movement for the mutual benefit of thousands of the best people in our State. G. C. ADAMS, Commissioner of Agriculture. : Ce INDEX t OF GEORGIA PRODUCTS : Page ose : bea : eee Grain and Hay For Sale -.-..--__- 2 Prevailing Wholesale Prices Aug. 28, 1933. Always Subject to Variation. ADAMS, Commissioner J. F. GREER, Director, Bureau of Markets : THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 1933. Entered as second class matter February 15, 1922, at the Post Of- 1 fice at Atlanta, Georgia, under the act of June 8, 1930. Accepted for mailing at special rate of postage -| provided for in Section 1103, Act | of October 8, 1917. Second-hand farm machinery, flowers and seed, incubator and ornamental nursery stock notices are published in Monthly Supple- ment which appears on the first _ Thursday of each month. - Parm land for sale editions are published at intervals during the year, Advance notices of these edi- tions appear from time to time ad- | vising advertisers when to mail us these types of noti-es. d yt Limited space will not permit in- sertions ef notices containing more | than 30 words, including name and | address. We reserve the right to cut dewn notices of more than 30 _ | words, providing that this reduc- | tion does not destroy the meaning | of the notice. When notices can- not be eut down they will be re- turned to the writer for correctivn. Limited space will not permit in- sertion of unimportant notices. Hudson, Newnan, R 3. -PEAVINE HAY WANTED Want 1 ton good Alfalfa or Peavine hay. Call or write. Mrs. E. H. McDee, Atlanta, od Fairburn Circle, Hemlock 8040-3. GS Adaeis Gainihigslonce of Ag- he has learned on good authority that ther is con- siderable cases of sickness and other bad effects following the consumption by the public of vegetables, fruits and other produce which have been spray- ed with insecticides that are poison- ous. The spraying of fruits and vegeta- bles by the grower for destruction of various insects and pests is an abso- lute essential process if the farmers intend to make a crop and Mr. Adams desires to caution the people that they should thoroughly wash and clean any fruits and vegetables before they are used. 3 A plan has been decided upon by the Emergency Relief Administration to increase the price of hogs. If you recall I had an article in the Bulletin last week on this subject and I am glad to see some action being taken to help the hog raisers... The program provides for the pur- chase of four million pigs and light hogs, weighing from 25 to 100 pounds by the Packers for the account of the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Prices to be paid for these hogs are well above the Market price, and is said they will be $6.00 per hundred for hogs around 100 pounds and $9.50 per hundred for pigs weighing 25 pounds. - I understand that Truckers and Peddlers are buying up a lot of hogs and pigs now, expecting to get this advanced price for them through the Government plan. Farmers should hold their pigs and light hogs until this plan is put into effect, so they may get these higher prices. Instead of selling now at these low prices, hold to your hogs and pigs for a while longer and get whatever Henetite this plan offers. f J. F. GREER, Director.
