DEPARTMENT of =UGENE TALMADGE STATE CAPITOL eer + eee Are You Getting Any OL There are a great many complaints coming into the Department of griculture that different creameries are giving bad checks for cream and milk bought from the farmers of Georgia. ess Last summer the Legislature passed an Act providing for the issu- : ance of license to different creameries, milk depots, condensories, and _ similar places where the milk and cream is bought up from the dairy- men of Georgia. _ Due to the fact that we have had a great any complaints from these bad checks being given to some of the farmers by these- fly by : night concerns, we have invoked a ruling that these companies will comet be licensed where they fail to pay for the cream and milk. _. All of you who have turned down checks for cream and milk (which you have sold to the different creameries, please forward them -.to Dr. J. M. Sutton, State Vetenarian, State Capitol, Atlanta, and owe. will make an effort to collect them for you, In the event that they are not paid I think this sufficient grounds for cancelling the ~ lieense- of these creameries. Ue It is hard enough work to bog around in a sii hy lot these cold me nights and mornings to milk the cows when you get paid for the milk and. eth but when you have to do it for nothing it is a little too tough ao The price of cream is exceptionally low compared with a year ago. When I was at home Sunday, my wife told me that last year she was getting about 50 cents per pound, butter fat, for her cream and now it brings only 35 eents. T have not heard of any reduction ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, JANUARY 23, 1930. AGRICULTURE... COMMISSIQNER= < PUBLISHED BY THE BUREAU OF MARKETSA. D. JONES, DIRECTOR ~ Bad Checks for Vane Shipments of ee and Milk? ce in the price of butter. What is the matter? It might be a wise thing to look over your local market and make our, cream into butter and sell it. at home until the price of cream picks up. If you have some of your milk cows fat, you might sell them for beef. We have to fight back when they, begin to press too hard. By the way, have you farmers found any cheap eotton seed meal? We have had a whole lot of low grade cotton seed and have been informed that these seed would not make good oil, good meal, and wouldnt even make good hulls or linters, I wish some of you farmers would make inquiries for some of the cheap meal that has been made from these poor seed, and if you find it let me know, and I will advertise this to the farmers, as, the cheap meal generally feeds and fertilizes about as well as this prime meal. I understand that there are a good many cotton seed not yet sold in Georgia. My advice to you would be to hold them until you can get a satisfactory price FOB your home shipping point. Have the buyer to grade them and weigh them and pay you for them at home. If they do not do this try using them for Feeiaer and feed. You will be surprised at the results. Another thing I wish to call your attention to: Quit carrying anything to the cars at hog sales except No. 1 hogs. Keep your number twos and threes until the next monthly sale. You can make a No. 1 out of any No. 2 or No. 3 in thirty days. Butcher | your rough hogs at home. The: differential of one cent on grades in hogs is too much. : _ EUGENE TALMADGE. ? ~ = = = OF GEORGIA .
