2 TOL, 19 STATE CAPITOL H PUBLISHED BY THE BUREAU OF MARKETSA. D. J ONES, DIRECTOR , ATLANTA, ( GEORGIA, TH URSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1929. AGRICULTURE...=3 COMMISSIONERS Prices On Hogs, Cattle and Poultry Last year at this time No. 1 hogs were bringing eight cents oe) per pound. The differential of one cent on the grades of hogs made the lower grades and rough hogs sell at very cheap prices. This year for the week of November 11th, the Bureau ot Markets, with the assistance of the County Agents, handled 21 ears of hogs that brought from 8:30 to 8:50 per hundred weight for No. ones. This price is just a little better than last year at this time. Last year, 1 suggested to the farmers not to put any of their hogs on the market that would not grade No. 1. If you have a good, rough hog, butcher it at home, cure the hams. They will bring just as good prices as hams from a smooth No. 1 hog. If you have a hog that is smooth but lacks mak- ing a No. 1 on account of its weight, keep him a little longer. You cannot afford to sell anything but No. 1 hogs at the pres- ent prices. Last year ,turkeys were bringing from 30 to 35 cents per pound. I was proud of my home county, Telfair, they sold, last year, at Milan in my county nearly a carload of turkeys. On November 12th this year there were 8000 pounds of tur- keys sold at Milan, that brought 27 cents per pound. I have been informed by the trade that there are a great many dress- ed turkeys imported into this country from the Argentine MARKET REPORT Country Butter, cooking, Ib. --- .30 Farris For Rent --------- een 2 OF GEORGIA PRODUCTS Wanted to Rent Farms -------- 2 = cee *s - Farr Help Wanted -_---------- 2-9 _ Prevailing Wholesale Prices, November 19, 1929. Last week, I noticed that the Sen- ate put a tariff duty on the importation of dressed poultry into this country. If this is finally passed our home market on turkeys and chickens will be protected from the importa- tions of dressed poultry from the Argentine and Mexico. Turkeys run into money pretty fast at 30 cents per pound, head, feet and feathers. Take a little more time to raise a few. They come in mighty good for Thanksgiving and Christmas money. This week a poultry car at Comer, Elberton and Bowman brought the following prices: Hens, 27 cents per pound; Hens, colored, 19 cents per pound; Hens, leghorn, 15 cents per pound; Stags, 18 cents per pound; Roosters, 12 cents per pound; Turkeys, 25 cents per pound; Ducks, 15 cents per pound; Geese, 15 cents per pound; Fryers, 27 cents per pound. Cattle are bringing good prices. The only danger of the ptice of cattle is that people will place them on the market | half fattened. Watch your cattle, see that they get plenty of salt and water. Sell those that are fat and keep those that are half fat until they get fat before you try to sell them, Ii you pursue this policy the price of our native Georgia eattle will not be broken.
