DEPARTMENT 0 oe a TALMADGE yj Gx a jo tea -O vibaluyw PeTBHOS ee ACRICUET URE COMMISS! a at a 13, STATE CAPITOL = Sant GEORGIA, THURSDAY, FEB. a 1929. CHEATING IN THE BULLETIN ~ About two or three weeks ago Mr. M. L. Upshaw, of Rydal, Georgia, answered an advertisement in the Bulletin offering shucks for sale in car lots.. W. B. Smith, of Register, Georgia, sent the ad in to be published. Mr. Smith told Mr. Upshaw to send a check for $150.00 and he would send him the shucks. Mr. Upshaw sent the check for $150.00. It was received and endorsed on the back W. B. Smit and also endorsed Hoye Hulsey, and was cashed by the tank, the money being paid over to Hovie Hulsey. ' Upon investigation the pe as of W. B. Smith and Hovie Hulsey were found to be the same. Hovie Hulsey has \ ing through the mails before. It is needless to say that he - did not send Mr. Upshaw the shucks according to the con- been operating in Evans and Bulloch counties. He has been in trouble with the Federal authorities on charges of defraud- tract, although he received the money for them. We have just heard from Sheriff Tillman of Bulloch coun- ty that Hovie Hulsey is in jail at Stateboro and is to be turii- ed over to the Federal authorities at Savannah. It is hard to keep any publication absolutely free from crooks. The subscribers to the Bulletin can help us in this more than anyone else. If you know of anyone who is de- frauding through the Bulletin, write me. The U, S. postal authorities, are doing all they can to assist in stopping these erooks, who use the Bulletin to defraud.
