PROTECT LATE QUAIL The State Game and Fish Depart- ment is calling attention to an unus- ual condition among the quail this year, on account of storm and flood results. As a conservation measure thought should be given to this situa- tion when hunters go into the field. Reports show that the midsummer crop of quail in parts of the state were drowned out before the young were old enough to fly, or the nests were washed away by flood waters be- fore the hatching season was over. It has been found that, in the low- er part of the state particularly, quails nested again, later than the usual sa- son and what is really a third brood has been hatched. These young birds are not yet old enough to fly more than a short distance, and in many coveys it has been found in the past couple of weeks some of the young are not far enough advanced to even get off the ground. : Where conditions of this kind are found the real sportsman in the coun- try will not, and should not, take a de- structive advantage of it. Undevel- oped young quail protected at this time will mean a greater and better supply next season. MISCELLANEOUS ADS Wanted: Hickory Nuts; 50 lbs. bit- ter nut; 200 lbs. shag bark; 100 lbs.
