(Continued on Page 6) Page 2 THE MARKET BULLETIN Wednesday, April 17, 2013 Advertising Guidelines Bulletin Publishes Every Other Week All advertisements published in the Market Bulletin must relate to the farming/agricultural industry or be a part thereof; any and all item(s) submitted for sale through the BULLETIN must meet at least one of the following criteria: 1) must be produced by the advertiser on his/her own farming operation, 2) must be made by the advertiser from materials on his/her own farming operation, 3) must be owned and used by the advertiser on his/her own farming operation for a period of at least 90 days prior to offering for sale through the BULLETIN. Businesses, corporations, dealerships or other commercial enterprises are not allowed to place classified advertisements in the MARKET BULLETIN. Commercial is defined as intended for mass market; handling large quantities of product for distribution (i.e., more than normal household or farm quantities); supported by advertisement (I.e., advertisement in publications other than the BULLETIN; listed as "business" in telephone directories or "yellow pages", etc.). Other indicators include, but are not limited to, holding business licenses and holding regulatory licenses/permits/registrations. Georgia residents only may advertise in the Market Bulletin with the following exception: out-of-state residents may advertise only in the Out-of-State Wanted category. The editor has the authority to designate the length of ads and the number of ads that may be placed by a family unit in any issue of the BULLETIN. Currently, only one (1) notice may be placed by any family unit in any issue of the BULLETIN. Family unit refers to all individuals sharing the same residence, address or telephone number. Ads must be received no later than designated deadline in order to appear in the following issue. Ads submitted via our website will be scheduled automatically for the next available issue. Ads will be published only once each time submitted unless the advertiser specifies on the notice that the ad is to be published more than once. Ads may be published for two (2) consecutive issues. A new notice must be submitted if the advertiser wants the advertisement to continue more than two issues. Note: Some ad categories are published infrequently and are published only once per submission. Please check ad category headings for publication frequency prior to submitting notice. There is a 20-word limit for advertisements except as noted under category headings (special categories that are published only monthly, quarterly or bi-annually, have a 30word limit). Advertiser's name, town, phone number or name and complete address must be included within the word limit. The Market Bulletin reserves the right to edit notices. Most advertisers include a telephone number in their ads, but mailing address may be published in lieu of phone number. However, it is important that advertisers provide a phone number when submitting ads in the event Bulletin ad personnel need to contact them concerning their ads. Advertisers who do not want a telephone number printed in their ads should note this fact when submitting the notice to the Bulletin. Each notice submitted for publication must be in writing; ads cannot be taken by telephone. Notices may be submitted by U.S. mail, facsimile transmission, or via the Internet through the Market Bulletin website. Notices sent via mail or fax must be legible, on a single sheet of paper separate from any other notice, and be accompanied by the name of the category and the name, mailing and street address (es) and telephone number of the person submitting the same. Page 11 Fuel Quality (Continued from Page 12) quality control is important not only to gasoline consumers, but also to Georgia farmers who use propane gas and diesel in their farming operations. In addition to routine petroleum inspections at retail and distribution points, the Department promptly responds to consumer and industry requests. Although the Division has more than 174,000 retail pumps to monitor, fuel oil inspectors give first priority to consumer complaints. Any suspected instance of adulterated fuel, inaccurate pumps or deceptive advertising is investigated immediately, usually within one working day. Product samples routinely are taken to the fuel oil laboratory in Tifton or the mobile fuel lab stationed in Atlanta, where they are analyzed for compliance with octane rating, volatility and numerous other standards of product quality and performance. Failure to meet quality specifications results in a "stop-sale order," and the product is withheld from sale until it can be brought back up to standard. The petroleum inspection program is designed to protect and benefit both the motorist and retailer. This system has worked so well in Georgia that several other states have adopted similar inspection programs. "Throughout the years, inspectors and employees of the Fuel and Measures Division have done an excellent job working with the consumers of Georgia," said Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary W. Black. "Our future looks bright, as we strive to make an excellent program even better." If you have questions or concerns about fuel- or petroleum-related matters, contact the Fuel and Measures Division at (404) 656-3605 in the Atlanta area, or 1-800-2825852 toll-free from anywhere in Georgia. With Gabon importing at least 80 percent of its food, the nation has a sincere desire to work with industry leaders to grow its agricultural sector. Georgia drivers are constantly using their vehicles for going to work, running errands or taking their families on summer trips. No matter what time of year it is, travelers are concerned with the price and supply of gasoline, along with the quality as well. The Fuel and Measures Division of the Georgia Department of Agriculture has no control over gasoline price, but it has a lot to do with the quality/measured quantity consumers receive. Regulating motor fuel quality is a key responsibility in the Department's mission to protect consumers and farmers. The Fuel and Measures Division checks the wholesale distribution and retail sales of a large amount of petroleum products. Georgia currently ranks seventh nationally with annual gasoline sales of more than five billion gallons and ranks 10th in diesel fuel marketing with yearly sales exceeding 1.5 billion gallons. In addition to gasoline and diesel fuel, inspectors check aviation fuels and kerosene. Retail gas pumps, terminal and transport truck meters, and LP gas meters are tested to assure accurate delivery, and station signs are monitored to verify that advertised prices are the same as those on the pumps. Also, petroleum storage tanks are checked for potential water or contamination problems. Consequently, Georgia motorists have relatively few problems related to fuel quality, and the number of gasoline pumps tested out of tolerance has been minimal over the past few years. Georgians Reminded to Pest-proof Homes, Businesses this Spring Spring has sprung in Georgia! This season is always a busy time for insects and pests, but it is especially the case after such a mild winter. In honor of National Pest Control Awareness Month in April, Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black reminds residents about the risks posed by household pests. "We are already seeing more insects and pests earlier this year due to the warm winter Georgia has had," said Commissioner Black. "Every year, pests cause millions of dollars in damage for our residents and it is important for Georgians to prepare a plan of action to help prevent damage from occurring." In April, consider these tips and suggestions for pest prevention and management: *Trim back trees and shrubs so they are not physically touching any building structures *Walk the perimeter of a structure's foundation and seal up any cracks or small openings *Install window and/or door screens and check once a year for holes or tears *Keep wood debris and piles of wood (including firewood) at a distance *Check plumbing and pipes to eliminate sources of moisture or standing water *Tightly secure all food and garbage to prevent pests from finding their way to the source (this includes pet food dishes and storage containers) If there are any visible signs of pests or an infestation, contact a licensed pest professional immediately. Consumers are urged to only seek advice from and use licensed professional pest control www.facebook.com/GeorgiaDepartmentof Agriculture www.Facebook.com/georgiagrown companies.
