Jula was born in Dexter, Georgia on March 5, 1961, to Donna Mae Smith and Dexter Smith, Sr. She attended Paine College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon receiving her degree, she was hired by the Georgia Department of Corrections, where she was employed from 19840013, receiving a plaque for dedicated service. Jula joined Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, where she married Christopher Cedric Young, Sr. They both served at Fairview until uniting with The Historic Thankful Baptist Church. Jula was a faithful and dedicated member of The Historic Thankful Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Women in Christ Ministry. Her family and friends will always remember her warm smile, love, and caring for others even through her illness. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving husband, Christopher C. Young, Sr.; son, Christopher C. Young, Jr.; daughter, Janelle FaVonne Young; two stepsisters, Shelby Parks, Dublin, Georgia and Mildred Carter, Atlanta, Georgia; goddaughter, Romanda Pearl, Washington, DC; very dear friend, Brenda Mackie, Augusta, Georgia; and a host of family and friends.
