MONROE 
My time to die has come. Be confident and determined 
and do what the Lord your God orders you to do. Obey 
all His Laws and Commands, as written in the Law of 
Moses, so that wherever you go you may prosper in ev- 
erything. (I Kings 2:2-3) 
Our bodies will return to the dust of the earth, and the 
breath of life will go back to God, who gave it to you. 
(Ecclesiastes 12:7) 
No one can keep themselves from dying or put off the 
day of their death. That is a battle we cannot escape; 
we cannot cheat our way out. (Ecclesiastes 8:8) 
Remember that seventy years is all we have  eighty 
years, if we are strong; yet they all bring us trouble and 
sorrow; life is soon over, and we are gone. (Psalm

OBITUARY 
A TIME TO BE BORN: James Monroe Williamson, affec- 
tionately known as "Rip", was born on March 13,1917. He was the young- 
est of three children born to the late Monroe and Artie Leona Williamson. 
A TIME TO LIVE: He received his education from Dead River 
and Hazel Grove Grammar Schools, Storm Branch Academy and Walker 
Baptist Institute in Augusta, Georgia. 
Monroe felt the calling of Christ on his life at an early age and 
became a member of Hazel Grove Baptist Church in Beech Island, 
South Carolina. He joined the Usher Board and served faithfully. 
Several years later, he migrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to seek 
employment. He acquired a job as a Pipefitter at Sunship Naval Shipyard. 
While Monroe was in Pennsylvania, he joined Thankful Baptist Church 
and became a member of the Anthem Choir. His talent as an orator began 
to develop and he was invited to speak at many churches. He enjoyed 
writing his speeches and never hesitated to commit them to memory. 
In 1973, Monroe moved back to South Carolina where he worked for 
Charleston Naval Shipyard until retirement. He worked on many aircraft 
carriers, submarines and battleships during his forty years as a pipefitter. 
A TIME TO DIE: On April 22, 1999, God, Captain of the "Old 
Ship Of Zion", took Monroe to his eternal home. He was preceded in 
death by a daughter, Shirley Williamson, a son, Gilbert Satterwhite 
and a grandson, Tracey Williamson. 
A TIME TO MOURN: Those who shared the joy of his life and 
will treasure his memory are: three daughters, Mrs. Sylvia (Henry) 
Ray and Mrs. Jeanette Gethers, Bath, South Carolina and Ms. Sylvia 
Satterwhite, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one son, Elder George Mon- 
roe (Marion) Williamson, Pontiac, Michigan; nine grandsons, SSG 
Jerome (Claudia) Gethers, Korea, Mr. Troy and Mr. Trevor (De'Shaella) 
Williamson, Pontiac, Michigan, Mr. Shango Lewis, Philadelphia, Penn- 
sylvania, Mr. Carlos (Katchia) Gethers, Schenectady, New York, Mr. 
Troy and Mr. Trevor Parham, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michael and 
Marcus Steele both of Bath, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Ms. 
Kimberly Wimberly, East Orange, New Jersey and Miss Yolanda Steele, 
Bath, South Carolina; four great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, 
Mrs. Geraldine Houston, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one Goddaugh- 
ter, Mrs. Gloria Steele, Langley, South Carolina and a host of nieces, 
nephews and other relatives and friends. 
"You have passed through the gateway of death, to a place where 
your soul has been renewed. Jesus is waiting with out stretched arms 
to joyously welcome you."
