How sweet it is at everting after a long and well-spent day, to close the eyes in slumber and rest from the toil of the day.

A beautiful life came to a close on Thursday, July 3, 1980, at 1:40 p.m. in the V A Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. 
Deacon John R. Williams, Sr., was the son of the late Elzy and Emmie Williams. He was born May 4, 1921, in Edgefield County, South Carolina. 
At an early age he joined Bland Baptist Church and served as a faithful member until his death. 
He served as a member of the United States Army during World War II, the American Legion Post No. 122, the Masonic Lodge. He was chosen " W ho's W ho" of America's Small Businessmen. He was awarded certificates of appreciation for 20 years of services for community and churches and for valuable contributions to the nation and the Selective Service System. In addition, he also sponsored the Singing Stars of Johnston, S.C. 
Those who will miss him most are a loving, devoted wife, Sara; two sons, SRA John R. Williams, Jr., of Okinawa, Japan, and Mr. Gregory Williams of the home; one daughter, Miss Lynnette Williams of Whitten Village in Clinton, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Saznette Williams; one step-mother-in-law, Mrs. Viola Weaver of Newark, N. J.; six sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Dukes of Johnston, S.C., Mrs. Mattie Wallace of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Evelyn Scott of Washing ton, D C., Mrs. Mary Brincefield of Oxon Hill, Md., Mrs. Mattie Lucille Betts of Lanhan, Md., Mrs. Valeria Daniels of Aiken, S.C.; two brothers, Mr. C. Fred Williams of Edgefield, S.C., Mr. Jessie J. Williams of Johnston, S.C.; five aunts, Mrs. Elizza Campbell of Saluda Nursing Home, Mrs. Mary Bell Jennings of Graniteville, S .C ., Mrs. Abbie Jennings of Johnston, S. C ., Mrs. Catherine Huite of Nudley, N. J., and Mrs. Pearl Daniels of Ridge Spring, S.C.; three uncles, Mr. Johnnie Jennings of Washington, D.C., Mr. David " Yank" Wallace of Edgefield, S.C., Mr. Mack Simpkins of Washington. D. C : thirteen sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a noble husband and brother Loved by all he knew Everyone he tried to help And smiled the whole day through 
 
He served and loved his Master And tried His will to do: Was always helping others -- A life so noble, kind and true. 
 
We shall miss his bright smile And all his loving ways. But we'll try to live for Jesus And meet him at the end of our days
