W illie Jackson, Obituary Retired Master Sergeant Edward " D ick " W illiam s slipped quietly away on July 29, 1993 at the Departm ent o f Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dick was born in Columbia County to the late Jessie Fouch and Deacon Henry Kermit Williams, Sr. on August 30, 1917. He was the ninth of twelve children. Dick enlisted in the Army in 1943. W hile serving in the military, he received training as a Histo-Pathology Technician. His m ilitary career spanned 31 years. Prior to his retirem ent in 1974, he had received numerous commendations for meritorious achievement. After his retirement, he was employed in the Pathology Departm ent of the Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He was a born leader. W hile moonlighting as a chauffeur at the Augusta National, he could be heard giving strategic golfing tips -- even to the pro-golfers. He was one of the best at hunting, fishing, golfing, joke and story telling. He truly adored Ethel W alker Williams, his wife o f 48 years. He was the proud father of Richard Edward, Joyce Ann and Deborah Lynn. Dick has been a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church since his baptism in 1931. He served his church dutifully in many capacities until ill health prevented his active involvement. Among his fondest memories of his beloved Piney Grove were the years he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Cherishing his memory, are his wife, Ethel W alker W illiams; one son, Richard Edward Williams, San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Joyce Williams Dejoie, Martinez, Ga. and Deborah Williams Bennett, Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Zuri Maleika Williams, San Diego, Calif., Michael Joseph Gabriel Dejoie, Anthony Edward Dejoie, Racy Richard and Brittany Michelle Bennett, all of Augusta, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Charlene Williams; one son-in-law, Gabriel Dejoie; a brother, George Burroughs Williams, Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Mildred Williams Hankerson, Augusta, Ga.; four brothers-in-law, four sistersin-law, and numerous other relatives and friends. **** ** "Peace I leave w ith you, m y peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
