Phinizy, Presiding Pastor Gary I Reese, Sr., O fficiating (btiuarg On May 27th, 1994, Mrs. Emma M aryland Tubman, wife of the late Deacon Mai Tubman, Sr., departed this life. She was bom in Columbia County' on March 11th, 1903 to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Maryland. At an early age, she was baptized by the late Rev. Kitt Jones at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Grovetown, Georgia. After moving to Augusta, Georgia, she joined the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for over sixty-five years. As a dedicated member, her Christian values and teachings were demonstrated through the years as she served as: Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, Church Clerk, Chief of Usher Board, Deaconess, Choir member. Secretary7of Field Mission, 10th District Missionary' Society and many other organizations. She was an alumnus of Haines Normal and Industrial Institute and often spoke of her love and admiration for Lucy Craft Laney who was her principal. Emma Tubman was a homemaker, floral designer, recitor of poetry7, and never refused an opportunity to serve her family, church, community7, and friends. Left to cherish her memory are: two sons, Calfrie C. Tubman and Lester E. Tubman, Sr.; one sister, Claudia W. Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. ****** FAMILYPRAYER O God o f grace and glory, we remember this day our loved one, Mrs. Emma Maryland Tubman.
