CHURCH 623 Crawford Avenue Augusta, Georgia Reverend Augusta Hall, Jr. - Pastor BERNARD TOMPKINS was born May 15,1944 in Augusta, Georgia, the fifth child of Linzie and Eliza Tompkins, died at his home in Beech Island, South Carolina on March 19, 2017. At the age of three, his parents moved the family to North Augusta, South Carolina. His elementary and high school education were completed at Triune Elementary and Jefferson High Schools. Following high school graduation, Bernard moved to Chicago where he worked and attended Roosevelt University. He returned to North Augusta in the late 1970s, and became employed with the city of North Augusta as an electrical inspector, and with the State of South Carolina as a senior electrical inspector. He was a long time member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. In 1999, Bernard and his high school sweetheart, Mary Jones, rekindled their relationship and were married on May 28, 1999. Together, they enriched both the Tompkins and Jones families by their loving care, help and support. Bernard was a warm, caring, and gentle spirit who was always willing to help, and to share his infectious laughter. Many of us remember Bernard as a very talented perfectionist. We will always remember his beautiful and amazing three-dimensional wood floors and wood furniture. Bernard is survived by: his dear wife, Mary Tompkins; son, Jason (Melissa) Tompkins; grandson, Mekhi; five brothers, Linzie (Bea) Tompkins, Laverne (Rudell) Thompkins, Leon Thompkins, Samuel (Anita) Thompkins and Arnold (Francis) Thompkins; two sisters, Leatrice (Tom) Snowden and Olivia Stephens; Bernard was also blessed with four additional children who loved him very much, Trena, Dwayne, Staci and Tavis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Bernard touched so many lives! He will be greatly missed! 'e/ivim Worship Leader, Reverend Augusta Hall, Jr. Prelude Processional Congregational Song Prayer................. ... Bethel A.M.E. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, But never meant to stay. Our destination is a place far greater than we know, For some, the journeys quicker, for some the journeys slow. And when the journey finally ends, Well claim a great reward And find an everlasting peace together with the Lord. We, the family of Bernard Tompkins, wish to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to everyone who demonstrated acts of kindness during the passing of our loved one.
