Mrs. Alberta Johnson Stephens was born on May 21, 1910 in Evans, Georgia, the oldest child, of the late Mr. Arthur Johnson and Mrs. Lucy Mason Johnson. 
Her early Christian life began at the age of 13 when she was converted and baptized at Oakey Grove Baptist Church by the late Rev. I.M. Taylor in 1923. She remained a faithful member and worker, serving on the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Pastors Aide Committee, Deaconess Board and other auxiliaries for 78 years until her health failed in 2001. She was an active member of Sunday School. Alberta delighted in the fact that she was recognized as the "Oldest Member" and "Mother of the Church" for Oakey Grove Baptist. 
Alberta married Mr. Jessie Alphonso Stephens on August 12, 1933. The late Deacon Stephens was a strong community leader and worker and a devoted member of the First Providence Baptist Church in North Augusta, South Carolina. Alberta worked faithfully with the members at First Providence Baptist Church by serving on the Usher Board, Senior Choir, the Deaconess Board faithfully as she continued to also do in her home church. In her senior years, she found joy and solitude in her membership with the Golden Age Ministry at Second Providence Baptist Church. 
She was a strong community and city worker; Alberta served for years as the treasurer of her community organization. She was a member of the Zions Sons and Daughters Society, Pleasure Working Club, and the Charitable Aide Society. 
Survivors include a beloved brother and sister (both of Philadelphia) Mr. I.T. (Grammy) Johnson and Mrs. Lou Bennett; a devoted niece-Mrs. Judy J. Lamback, godson and nephew Dr. Charles R. Lamback, Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
