r> (S ^eflee/tojhj A Husband, A Father, A Grandfather, A Brother, An Uncle, A Friend, and A Servant of God "Let The Work I 've Done, Speak for M e" John Henry Starks, Sr was born May 2, 1921, to the late Patsy Starks. He was the oldest of four children. On Thursday evening, November 15, 2007, the call was made, the gates were opened and he entered into his eternal home. In 1936, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and was baptized at the Spring Grove Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC. He was later led to and was a member of the Oakey Grove Baptist Church, Evans, Georgia. On February 8, 1942, he married Adline Beatrice Philpot. To this union nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Glenda. Throughout his life his accomplishments were infinite. Through the years, he pastored several churches namely: St. Matthews Baptist Church, Millen, GA; Pine Hill Baptist Church, Louisville, GA; Flint Hill Baptist Church, Callison, SC; Spring Field Baptist Church, Greenwood, SC; New Hope Baptist Church, McCormick, SC; and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC. He loved his fam ily. He served his community and was a liftetime member of the NAACP. He served his country in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II. He kept the faith and a legacy to be remembered. In 1968, he integrated the Columbia County Public Schools. Today, he leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife of 65 years, Adline Beatrice Philpot Starks; five daughters, Beatrice (Gene) Arnold, Dayton, OH; Ernestine (Edward) Price, Augusta, GA; Roberta (Hardwick) Florence, Fayetteville, NC; Helen Young, Hendersonville, TN; and Connie (Wayne) Dowdy, Stone Mountain, GA; three sons, John H. Starks, Jr., Martinez, GA; Benton (Judy) Starks, Martinez, GA; and Alvin (Prestina) Starks, Evans, GA; one sister, Viola Henderson, Augusta, GA; two brothers, Willie James Starks, Augusta, GAand Lewis G.
