FUNERAL SERVICES FOR Mrs. M ariah Goode Smith Service Wednesday, February 22, 1984 3:30 p.m. Bethlehem Baptist Church Ninety Six, South Carolina Reverend J. W. Price, Pastor Officiating Assisted By Rev. Ed F. Johnson Reverend W. A. Lee Reverend W. B. Williams Reverend Henderson Louden OBITUARY Many people look upon death as a finite and sad occasion. Our Lord and Savior has said that the death of a Christian is a glorious time as recorded by the Psalmist in Psalm 116: 15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saint." Thursday, February 16, 1984, Mrs. Mariah Goode Smith of Route 3, Ninety Six, ended her pilgrimage to the prepared house John mentioned in John 14: 3, 4. She was born in Ninety Six, South Carolina to the late Henry and Lugenia Christopher Goode. She was the widow of the late Frank Smith. At an early age she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church and participated in various youth activities. As an adult, she was instrumental in the formation of the Church's Birthday Club, a member of the Senior Choir and the Missionary Society. She was educated in and a graduate from public schools in Ninety Six, Seneca Jr. College, Bettis Academy and Benedict College, Columbia, SC. Kindness, usefulness, sincerity, sacrificial, strong, friendly are words attributed to Mariah. This can be seen in the tasks performed and organizational affiliations held . She was a retired teacher with the Saluda School system with 39 years of service, a member of the Friendly Few Club, Gardenia Garden Club, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, SC Retired Teacher's Association and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. A life as full and rewarding has not ended but will live in the hearts and minds of those left behind, three sisters, Mrs. Emma G. Fletcher of Washington, DC, Miss Julia Goode and Mrs. Isabell Adams, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Joseph Goode of Ninety Six and Charles Lindbergh Goode of Lanham, MD; two god-daughters, one god-son, several nieces and nephews, an aunt, Mrs Lilia Joseph of Ninety Six, SC; one great niece and a host of other relatives and friends. POEM You have crossed the raging Sea of time, And left us in a storm. The angry billows around us roll, By faith we're sailing on. With only a last hope in view, And this we know is true. You never can return to us, But we can come to you. And when the storms of life are past, And the mist has rolled away. We'll fold this earthly tent of clay, And meet you some sweet day.
