ALBERT LYNN SMITH was born in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty-six to the late Mr. Willie Joe and Artie Lou Smith in Augusta, Georgia. He was the youngest of eight children. He was affectionately known as Lynn. Albert accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church on 9th and DAntignac Street in Augusta Georgia. He served in many areas of the church namely: advisor to Boy Scouts, church custodian, drove church van. Member of the Lay organization, and the Sons of Allen, C. E. Wells Gospel Choir and the E.L. Wells Usher Ministry very effectively serving as president for many years. Albert attended public schools of Richmond County and graduated in 1964 from Lucy Craft Laney High School. After graduating high school he move to Leavenworth, Kansas to assist in the care of his ailing sister. In 1967 he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart Nancy King. Albert was later drafted into the U.S. Army an is a Vietnam Veteran. Later employment includes Richmond County Board of Education Transportation Department, Plant Vogtle and Savannah Riversite. He retired from Augusta Public Transit Department, also driving for Highland Express and worked Securtius Security Service. Albert departed this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mrs. Nancy K. Smith; three sons, Robert L. Bassett, Reverend Stephen B. Smith (Angela) and Cory Smith; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Abrams (Damond), Deonta Harrison, Davin Harrison, Stephanie Harrison, Issac Butler, Crystal Butler, Nhadia and Bryant Smith, all of Augusta, Georgia, Tammaria Smith (deceased); six great grandchildren, Tamarion, Damone, DaMonte, Tammaria, Maquise and Markael; sister, Dorothy Chapman, New York, New York; two Brothers, Roy H. Smith (Clara) and Claude J. Smith (Betty), Snellville, Georgia; five god-children, Latassha Mathis, Robert Crawford (Legena), Charmaine Hunter, Travis Love and Tiffany Love (deceased); loving in-laws, Robert King, Jr., Linden, New Jersey, Edward King, Sr., Los Angeles, California, Willie and Adeline King, Franklin and Roberta Daniels, Sr., both of Augusta Georgia, Leon and Patricia King, Debary, Florida, Alice Mitchell, Charleston, South Carolina, Raymond and Myrtis Wells, Jr., Evans, Georgia; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. I came into your family not knowing what Id find; I was nervous and afraid, you, gently eased my mind. You made me feel right at home from the first day that we met; you welcomed me with opened arms and that I wont forget. You always have encouraged me, what kind words that youd say; I know I can depend on you on any given day.
