Smith, beloved high school sweetheart and husband of Faye Faulk Smith, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 25 th, 2004- Born December 26th , 1946, he is the son of Rev. James and Janie Smith. A native of Conway, South Carolina, Rev. Smith graduated from Whittemore High School. He entered South Carolina State College, now South Carolina State University, and graduated with a degree in Biology. He taught in the Richmond County School System for twenty years. He continued his educa tion by receiving his Master of Education Degree in Counseling from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. Additional degrees earned from Erskine Theological Seminary include Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees. He served as Assistant Pastor and then Pastor of Elim Baptist Church for twenty-three years. His vision was to see and obey Gods will by making the Elim of Augusta like the Elim of Exodus 15:25 - "A Replen ishing Station". His prayer was for Elim to continue to strive for total Christian commitment. Hts religious and community affiliations included the Housing and Neighborhood Development Citizens Advisory Committee, Board of Directors Member, CSRA Partnership for Community Wealth, Chair man, Steering Committee 30904 Area Partnership for Community Health, Past President of the Au gusta Baptist Ministers Morning Conference and organizer of the Sand Hills Neighborhood Association. Rev. Smith published in 1998, Ongoing Ministry Through An Interchurch/Interracial Council. Rev. Smith is survived by his loving wife, Faye; two sons, 1 st Lt. Charles (Layana) E. Smith, II, Tinker AFB, OK and Christopher E. Smith, St. Louis, MO; loving parents, Reverend James (Janie) Smith, Conway, SC. He is also survived by his six sisters, Carolyn (Frank) Vereen, Mary Wilks, Brenda Branch of Conway, SC, Barbara (Jesse) Oliver, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Kathy (Reverend Earl) Wilson, Decatur, GA and Genola (Reverend Kenneth) Dunlap, Charlotte, NC; his brother, Rev. Anthony (Sheila) Smith, Lawton, OK; two aunts, Mrs. Annie M. Spain and Lucille Blye; two uncles, Edward Small and John H. Robinson; four sisters-in-law, Sarah L. Faulk, Lula Donovan, Helen C. Williams and Patricia Faulk; two brothers-in-law, Levi Holman an Gerald Donovan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also our Augusta mother, Mrs. Lucille Patterson.
